Both of these women are in menopause
The levels of FSH and LH represent the deficiency of estrogen and testosterone, respectively.
The higher the number, the more deficiency there is.
These number mean something else that is SO important! BONE GROWTH! 🦴
As we age and our ovaries (as women) fail, our hormones decline and the pituitary responds by elevating FSH and LH to try to get the ovaries to cooperate.
When the levels of these hormones are elevated we stop making bone! Fascinating, right? Nature knows you’re done making babies and you should start your natural decline 👎🏻
With replacement of testosterone and estrogen, women can continue making bone well into their 80s or 90s if they stay on replacement.
The woman age 73 has been receiving HRT pellets over the last 20+ years. She’s reversed her bone loss from osteoporosis (bone loss) in her 50s to now osteopenia (bone thinning) at the age of 73. Note her low levels! (Confined by DEXA).
The woman age 50 was receiving estrogen and progesterone only from another practitioner, but the dosage was not adequate to help reduce her levels and thus she is no longer making bone.
HRT is far more important for longevity than most people understand 🩻

The DUTCH test
Dried urine test for comprehensive hormones
I’ve had a lot of messages and questions about the DUTCH test since I last posted about saliva testing.
Yes, the Dutch test is an EXCELLENT tool!
The DUTCH takes into account 5 samples of urine to determine adrenal function and s*x hormone balance.
Why I love this test: it give the values AND ratios of hormones at a particular time of the cycle (often missed on blood samples), it shows the metabolism of the hormones; indicating if there is an issue with the breakdown of the hormones in the gut or liver and possible shedding light on methylation issues as well, it gives the adrenal cortisol pattern and can help determine which particular neurotransmitter you may be deficient in.
What I don’t love about it, the price. The baseline DUTCH test starts at $400.
This is why I have migrated more towards the saliva and just treat each patient as if they don’t metabolize and detox properly, whether I have that evidence or not cuz HEY, we could ALL improve our gut and liver function, right??
We do have DUTCH tests available as well, if you’d prefer this deep dive! It’s such a great tool and an easy at home test to complete.
Here’s an example of a female post menopausal patient who has estrogen dominance and a decent cortisol pattern. This patient needs help with the detoxification pathways for estrogen in the liver.
