Last weekend we finished up a two-day Winter Survival Course. We will be running a scaled down one-day course at the New Hampshire Outdoor Learning Center on Saturday March 7th, 2026. If you spend anytime recreating in the winter, then come learn some valuable life-saving skills.

We will be running two Winter Survival Courses in Conway, NH at SOLO Schools. The first course sold out quickly and the second course only has a few more openings. If you recreate in the White Mountains, then you want to check this course out!!!

For the past several years, I have been providing private training to several ER Doctors, Physician Assistants, and Wilderness and Austere Medicine Fellowship students from Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. This year's training was to focus on what skills are needed to spend an unplanned night in the woods with minimal equipment (minus the great dinner that JD cooked😀). Over two days and one 19-degree cold night, the students learned:

Knife/saw/axe safety and use
Water procurement
Fire building
Knots
Emergency shelter construction
Local plant and tree identification and uses
Outdoor cooking methods

Awesome job by these folks and I am blessed 🙏 to be able to pass on these skills. If you would like to set up some private training, please reach out to us.

Great year at the New Hampshire Outdoor Learning Center. Many thanks to Craig Poirier for helping me with all of the classes and taking all of the photos throughout the year. I am looking forward to next year.

We finished up the last Survival 101 and Land Navigation classes for the year at the NHOLC New Hampshire Outdoor Learning Center last weekend.
