If anyone is trying to figure out what’s happening to the declining salmon population in the Rogue River, go to the mouth and see for yourself. They hunt in packs, like wolves as the salmon migrate upstream. Low clear water makes hunting very easy for the pinnipeds. We live in a very fragile environment but balance needs to be maintained to ensure opportunity for all who seek the bounty of our rivers. Please share this post and good luck out there!

The last few times on the water has been some of my most challenging days when it comes to producing King Salmon on the the Rogue. However I’ve had the pleasure of spending my time with some remarkable people. I got to take Al Wighton and his brother Mike for a couple of days. Amy and I purchased our home from Al over 20 years ago on a handshake. Folks with integrity like that are hard to find these days and I will always be indebted to him and his wife Shiela for their kindness. I also was able to fish Kyle Gaines and his son Thorin. They are members of the Confederated tribe of the lower Umpqua, Coos and Siuslaw Indian tribe. Kyle is a gentle giant with an infectious smile and an overall great human being! He’s a gifted woodworker and also makes Native American handmade goodies that I was proud to accept and wear as a gift the next day when we went to the ocean.
Yesterday was time to switch gears as the weather was good and the ocean was flat. I took three clients, Rich, Mark and Kevin. We were able to connect with a couple of nice Springers not far off the mouth of the mighty Rogue. The ocean is abundant with balls of bait and hungry salmon. It’s only a matter of time before they make their migration up the river to greet the waiting anglers. As for now anglers need to make adjustments based on calm ocean conditions to take advantage of the bounty just off the mouth of the river. Always remember to be safe out there as the conditions can change rapidly and ocean can prove to be treacherous and relentless. Challenging conditions continued to persist on the Rogue the past week. Low clear water and the pesky seals and sea lions made it very difficult for most all anglers. This current rain should be most beneficial and hopefully put some color in the water and fish into the system. I want to express my gratitude to the Confederated Tribes of the Lower Umpqua, Coos and Siuslaw Indians for choosing my operation to take their members out on the water. I had the privilege of guiding their Chief, Doug Barrett this past weekend. It’s both an honor and privilege that I get to spend time with them. I’m looking forward to spending time with you as well on the water. Please call or text as days are becoming more limited. It’s right around the corner…..I can’t always promise my clients a fish like this one but I can help alleviate the stress that goes into trying to catch one. Ok, so 2026 is here! We have been very fortunate to have had a great couple of years and our success would not be possible without the continued support of our wonderful clients. We have been able to secure a permit to access the wild and scenic section of the Rogue River and we also have upgraded our boat. We will now be offering guided trips in a luxury 25 foot Riverwild jet sled. Fish in total comfort in the heated interior while relaxing in our deluxe captains chairs. Room to fish four anglers with ample room to spare. You will not be disappointed in the in the service you receive while angling for one of the most prized fish, the tenacious Rogue River Chinook! I have a two person minimum at 300 per person. I do not mix parties so you will not be fishing with folks you don’t know. Well, not enough time to thank my clients and family for their support this past season. But to say the least, it was another season of bounty!! Continuing to grow my business as I’m seeing many returning clients. Please stay tuned for my upcoming 2026 season and the changes being made to our growing business. Lots of positive things that would not be possible without the support of my clients and family is just around the corner! I’m personally looking forward to seeing all of you in 2026. Had the privilege of fishing with a couple of notorious and legendary Gold Beach residents. One is my father Terry Timeus and the other is Tim Odwyer. Both are long time locals and thought to of been outlaws back in their day!!😉 Well today I had my deckhand Rudy with me and he made those fellas tote the line of the law. No fish on board unless it had the proper amount of fins!!! Both of these guys cranked on salmon all day long. As a matter of fact they were kind enough to feed a couple to the sea lions and spread the wealth whether they wanted to or not. At the end of the day, a couple of nice cohos and a king went into the ceremonial kill bag!! Not to mention a tote full of Dungeness morsels. As for me, I got to sit back and soak in all the knowledge that they were willing to share with me. As for Rudy, he has since got his captains license and plans on venturing out on his own next year. Lots of news I want to share with you for the upcoming 2026 season. I may run two sides to my business and just maybe Captain Rudy will be at the helm and guiding you to a bag full of salmon!! Till next time, if someone asks you to go fishing that doesn’t mean you will catch fish, it means you will make wonderful memories of the day you got to spend together…….

One Client today, we went 5/11. He took home a limit and more importantly lots of memories and a nice bag of Rogue River bounty. The fruit is there if you want to come and pick it. My dates are limited, so strike while the iron is hot!
