Research shows the biggest predictor of chronic pain isn’t disc damage or bone spurs, it’s psychosocial stress such as work, relationships, and emotional load. Your body responds to the life you’re living, not just the injuries you’ve had. The pain often means your system has been holding on for too long.

I hear this all the time in practice. “I feel numb, foggy, and I don’t feel like myself anymore.”

When stress, danger, or unresolved trauma feels impossible to escape, the nervous system may shift into freeze. This is the dorsal vagal response. The body slows everything down in an attempt to conserve energy and protect itself. That can look like low energy, shallow breathing, emotional flatness, and a deep sense of disconnection.

Your nervous system has been carrying too much for too long.

This is what so many women discover after years of bloating, exhaustion, poor sleep, and hormone chaos, not because they weren’t trying hard enough, but because no one ever connected the dots.

What changed wasn’t another protocol, it was understanding that the body wasn’t broken.
When the nervous system begins to feel safe, digestion can wake up, sleep can deepen, and mornings don’t have to start with anxiety anymore.

Your digestion, your sleep, and your hormones often get treated like separate problems.

Different doctors, tests, and fixes but what if they’re all connected?

Chronic stress doesn’t just live in your mind, it lives in your nervous system and when that system is stuck in survival mode, the body shifts its priorities. Digestion slows, sleep becomes lighter and hormones fall out of rhythm just to protect you.

So many people I work with have been doing “all the right things” and still feel stuck. That’s usually the moment we stop asking what’s wrong with the body and start asking what the nervous system has been carrying.

We spent our weekend at Logan’s swim meet. It was so exciting! Logan is in lane 8 and finished 2nd in his heat, taking off over a second on his 100 back. He was thrilled with the time drop—lots of time and hard work were put in to achieve that!

Your body doesn’t have unlimited resources to make hormones. Estrogen, progesterone, and cortisol all come from the same raw materials. When stress becomes chronic, the body prioritizes survival, and it diverts those resources toward cortisol to manage perceived danger, anxiety, or overwhelm.

This process is called the pregnenolone steal and it can have a major impact on PMS.

Lower progesterone, more estrogen dominance, creates increased irritability, anxiety, bloating, poor sleep, and painful cycles. This is why treating hormones without addressing stress often falls short.

Sometimes the most powerful way to support PMS is to support the nervous system first!

We’ll explore the layers of this work such as structural, neurological, emotional, and mind-body, so you can see why such gentle touch creates such profound change and even more importantly, how to support your healing between sessions.

Most people think NSA care is only about the spine, but it’s really about evolving the patterns living inside your nervous system. Patterns that shape how you breathe, how you hold stress, and how you move through your day and your life.
