"Autistic kids are often told that we need help with our social skills. When I am hanging out with people who understand me, my social skills are actually quite awesome!" This quote, which we share often, came from one of our Autistic mentees (age 13) in response to the question, "What is something you wish everyone would understand?"

Autism is a complex disorder that presents differently for each individual. It is always enlightening to hear from individuals diagnosed with ASD about their experiences, thoughts and feelings. It is through their stories that we learn how to support other individuals with ASD.

A timeless quote from 2019, "For every person who understands Autism better, another Autistic person will be happier." ~ Autistic author & blogger Libby Scott, age 11.

When learning about Autism, it's so important to seek out work that reflects and respects Autistic voices.

"Childhood anxiety is sneaky. It doesn't always look like worry."

This valuable infographic from Katie Hurley, LCSW shows some of the many ways that anxiety might manifest itself in young people (some adults might relate to these as well!)

This insight from one of our Year 7 mentees seems more relevant than ever as our young people navigate massive changes this year:

"People don't understand that it's really hard for me just to get through a regular day at school. That's why I watch YouTube when I get home."

School can be such a demanding experience for so many young people. It's important that they have the time and space to decompress in a manner that works for them.
