💥 Thoracic Mobility 💥

Stiffness or pain in the upper and middle back? These exercises can help! 👇

1️⃣ Kneeling Thoracic Extensions. Great way to open up the thoracic spine. Can also help with overhead shoulder mobility. Sink down comfortably and hold 3-5 seconds with the goal of achieving more depth as you progress through reps. PVC pipe is optional. Perform 15-20x.
2️⃣ Half Kneeling Shoulder Sweeps. Great exercise to help improve thoracic rotation and extension actively. Perform 15-20x.
3️⃣ Half Kneeling Thoracic Rotation. A small foam roller is being used here, however this is certainly optional. Goal here, again, is to improve thoracic rotation which is commonly overlooked. Perform 15-20x.
4️⃣ Banded. Add a resistance band when #3 is mastered to improve mobility and overall motor control into this range of motion. Perform 15-20x.
5️⃣ Thoracic Extensions with Foam Roller. Another good option to improve thoracic extension. Legs are elevated to increase the amount of force through the thoracic spine. We are mobilizing here so short bouts (approximately 3-5 seconds) performed 15-20x.

Shoulder pain? Sometimes it can just be a lack of activation/strength of the rotator cuff and scapular stabilizers. Doing these exercises may help!

1️⃣Banded Upper Cuts: 15-20x
2️⃣Banded Overhead Reach: 15-20x
3️⃣Scapular Clocks: 5-10x Total
4️⃣Plank Scapular Clocks: 5-10x Total

Spinal manipulation is widely used as an effective means of treatment for neck and back pain.
Contrary to popular belief, it does not realign you or put anything back in place (There is a ton of research on this). It has, however, been shown to temporarily help reduce pain, improve range of motion, and even improve muscle recruitment/activation. This means there is a window of time where we can have a profound impact on your function and fitness right here in the clinic.

This is just one of many techniques we use at MotionWorks to help reduce pain/irritability in order to get to the root cause of pain and/or
dysfunction.
Ultimately, the goal here is to get patients feeling and moving better while promoting a more active lifestyle!
