Lung cancer is the leading cause of all cancer-related deaths in the United States among every ethnic group, taking more lives than breast, prostate and colon cancers combined.

Only 15 percent of lung cancer is diagnosed at its earliest and most curable stage, and more than 55 percent of cases are diagnosed after the cancer has metastasized. EBUS-TBNA (Endobronchial Ultrasound-guided Transbronchial Needle Aspiration) is a proven technique for reliable, minimally invasive diagnosis and lung cancer staging.

We are proud to offer this advanced technology to our community, expanding access to earlier diagnosis and lifesaving care close to home.

Serving our community with care since 1896.

We were honored to be recognized for more than 100 years of service as one of 15 organizations celebrated during a special ceremony honoring Wayne County’s centennial businesses. The event was hosted by The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce and United Way of Wayne County, with remarks from North Carolina Governor Josh Stein highlighting the lasting impact these organizations have had on our state and communities.

Our CEO, Dr. Jessie Tucker III, proudly accepted the award on our behalf, representing generations of physicians, nurses, staff, and community partners who have shaped our legacy. Thank you to Mt. Olive Pickle Company for graciously hosting this meaningful event—and thank you to our community for trusting us for over a century. We look forward to continuing to serve for generations to come.

🎉 Happy CRNA Week! 🎉

You may not have heard the term CRNA before — but you’ve definitely been cared for by one. A Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is a highly trained advanced practice nurse who specializes in giving anesthesia and helping patients stay safe and comfortable before, during, and after surgery or medical procedures.

CRNAs work in many settings where anesthesia is needed — from operating rooms and outpatient centers to labor and delivery units and even emergency care.

What do they do?
🔹 Prepare and educate patients about anesthesia
🔹 Monitor vital signs and tailor anesthesia care
🔹 Work closely with surgeons and other clinicians to keep patients safe
🔹 Provide comfort, reassurance, and expert care at every step of the process

Whether you’re having a baby, a procedure, or surgery, CRNAs are right there with you — often the last face you see when you go under, and the first as you wake up. Their expertise, compassion, and precision are critical to safe care and a positive experience.

Today and every day, we celebrate our CRNAs — thank you for your skill, dedication, and the comfort you bring to patients and families in our community!

Today, we celebrate National Pharmacists Day and extend our heartfelt thanks to the pharmacists at UNC Health Wayne for all they do for our patients and our community 💙

While many people think of pharmacists as the experts who dispense medications, their role in a hospital setting goes far beyond that. Our pharmacists work closely with physicians, nurses, and care teams to ensure medications are safe, effective, and tailored to each patient’s needs. They review prescriptions for accuracy, manage complex drug therapies, help prevent harmful interactions, and play a critical role in patient education and safety.

From the emergency department to inpatient care and beyond, our pharmacists are essential partners in healing—often working behind the scenes to make a life-changing difference every day.

Thank you to our UNC Health Wayne pharmacists for your expertise, dedication, and commitment to high-quality, compassionate care.

🏆 We’re proud to share that UNC Health Wayne has earned a Certificate of Distinction from The Joint Commission for Advanced Certification as a Primary Stroke Center.

This recognition reflects our team’s commitment to meeting rigorous national standards, following evidence-based clinical guidelines, and delivering high-quality stroke care with strong patient outcomes. Achieving this advanced certification required a comprehensive review of our stroke program, clinical processes, and quality of care—and we’re honored to be recognized for that work.

👏 Congratulations to our dedicated teammates who make timely, lifesaving stroke care possible every day. Your commitment to excellence truly makes a difference for our patients and our community.
