🦃🍁 Happy Thanksgiving from Legacy Animal Hospital! 🍁🦃
We are so thankful for our amazing clients and their wonderful pets! As you celebrate today, please remember to keep your furry family members safe many traditional Thanksgiving foods can upset their stomachs and even lead to vomiting, diarrhea, or pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas).
Here’s a quick guide to help keep pets safe at the dinner table:
✔️ Okay for Pets (in SMALL amounts):
- Plain turkey (no skin, no bones, no seasoning)
- Plain green beans
- Plain pumpkin purée (NOT pumpkin pie filling)
- Plain sweet potato (no butter, sugar, or spices)
❌ NOT Safe for Pets:
- Turkey skin, bones, or heavily seasoned meat
- Stuffing or casseroles (onions, garlic, butter, spices)
- Mashed potatoes with butter, cream, or seasoning
- Gravy
- Fatty foods (ham, turkey drippings, buttery dishes)
- Bread dough
- Chocolate, desserts, or anything containing xylitol
- Grapes or raisins
Even small amounts of fatty or seasoned foods can cause gastrointestinal upset and may trigger pancreatitis, which can be very serious.
If your pet gets into something they shouldn’t or starts showing signs like vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or abdominal pain, please contact us. (602-505-3100)
