Since the start of my yoga journey in 2004, these three things have become so important to me:
1. Consistently giving myself a framework & structure within which to move, breathe, feel and listen.
2. Learning how to feel strong, alive & resilient via a movement practice that emphasizes mobility, stability & strength.
3. Being exhilarated by continually giving my body, brain and breath new & novel physical challenges. Not the dangerous crazy work-out-nut kind. It's not about climbing mountains. But it is about intentionally exploring the capacity of how my physical body works and what it can do. (Scientific research is working on showing us how GOOD this is for our brains, our mind/body connection & even our sense of self.)
Given all this, most of the time I feel I don't really know how to teach yoga in a group setting. People come in at such different places physically, with such different expectations, and they need such different things. Yoga is so broad ... & the options included in mindful functional movement are broader still. What I have to offer is so broad. Where to start, and how to make it applicable to everyone in the room?
Still, I have NEVER been able to keep all this to myself. My life would be SO much simpler if I could; if I could just do it for myself and not worry about putting it out there. I've tried to do this for short times during my life. It was so nice. Everything was so much simpler. But can't not share ... because I'm surrounded daily by people who absolutely could feel so much better in their bodies, brains and lives if they knew how to start their own journey of exploration of these themes. But they don't know that. And I don't really know how to tell them. Now really. No yet. I don't have the words. But here I am ... offering some in-person workshops at a local studio that offers me the space and resources.
If you want to explore with me, I'm available this coming Tuesday evening -- via the format of my Beginner's Yoga Workshop Levels 1 & 2 at Mindful Mandi. (Descriptions, directions & registration in the website below.)
