The Goshen Police & Fire Mobile Integrated Health Team wants our community to be informed about Indiana’s Overdose Good Samaritan Law — also known as Aaron’s Law. This law can make all the difference during an overdose emergency, but it comes with important conditions everyone should understand.
Legal protection from certain drug charges is only granted if:

🔹 You administer Narcan (naloxone) to someone experiencing an overdose

🔹 You call 911 for help

🔹 You stay with the individual and cooperate with first responders and police

🔹 You acted in good faith to save a life

Important to note: Indiana does not offer immunity to the person who overdosed, and the law does not cover serious drug offenses like trafficking or any unrelated criminal charges.

💉 Narcan is available FREE at many locations throughout Goshen and across Indiana. Knowing how to access and use it can truly save lives. Seconds matter.

🧠 Bottom line: Be informed, stay calm, and do the right thing in a crisis — call for help. Your actions could save someone’s parent, child, friend, or neighbor.

90% of cardiac arrest victims who receive a shock from an AED in the first minute live. Here’s what to know about automated external defibrillators:

1️⃣ Anyone can use one; no training is required.

2️⃣ Many public places have them, often on a wall near an elevator.

3️⃣ A diagram shows where to place the defibrillator pads on bare skin.

4️⃣ A voice prompt tells the person using it exactly what to do.

National CPR and AED Awareness Week is underway! During this special week, we spotlight how lives can be saved if more Americans know CPR and how to use an AED.

The AHA has set a goal of doubling the survival of cardiac arrest by 2030. We know that in order to save more lives from the 350,000 cardiac arrests that occur outside of the hospital every year, we must increase the number of people who respond to cardiac arrest by calling 911, delivering high-quality CPR and getting and using an AED as soon as it is available.

To help us raise awareness about CPR and AED Awareness and work toward our goal, we would love your help with building a Nation of Lifesavers. The goal of the AHA’s Nation of Lifesavers initiative is to turn bystanders into lifesavers.

It was such a large success we’re doing it again! A summer time, accelerated EMT class!! But wait…there’s more! This year we are offering the class at both South Bend and Elkhart campus! The class will meet Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9am until 2pm, May 20th through July 28th, 2024.
