As show season starts to get into full swing, think about keeping your equine partner at peak performance. If you haven’t been conditioning them over the winter or have slowed down a bit, start the workouts slower and less strenuous. Faster isn’t always better, especially when it comes to the muscular system. This system makes up 60% of your athletes body weight. Take care of it and it will last longer with far less injury.

Recovery after injury. Spinal flexibility. Reduced muscular tension. These aren't small things — and they don't happen by accident.

Rehabilitation & Maintenance 🙌
Gently stretching your horse’s tail downwards and to each side can be a really good addition to your routine, as long as it’s done carefully.

✅ It’s a great way to improve mobility through the pelvis and lower back, especially around the sacroiliac region where horses can quite easily become restricted.

✅ You’ll also be encouraging activation of the core and postural muscles, helping with stability through the trunk and hindquarters.

✅ By lightly stimulating around the base of the tail, you’re supporting proprioception too, so your horse becomes more aware of its body and balance, which is really helpful in both rehabilitation and maintenance work.

✅ Working evenly to both sides can highlight (and help address) any asymmetries in flexibility or movement patterns.

😌 It’s also lovely for releasing tension through the hindquarters, you will feel them soften or see them visibly relax into it.

💤 And finally, it can encourage that parasympathetic “rest and relax” response, making it a really nice way to finish a session or settle your horse.

I tend to hold each side for around 10–30 seconds, gradually building up to 30 seconds to a minute as they get more comfortable. As always, ask your equine bodyworker to show you the correct technique 🙌

To clarify: BEMER is still part of regular therapy sessions along w LASER, manual massage and TMJ.

As a BEMER IBD (independent BEMER distributor), I’m happy to set you on the path to owning your own BEMER Horse Set or Human Set. I will walk you through every step of the process and continue to be there days, weeks or years after your purchase.

If you are an existing ETS client, and you purchase a BEMER, you may wonder how this would impact your horse’s sessions with me. Well, no need for concern. The session will simply revert back to pre-BEMER therapies. Meaning, instead of utilizing my BEMER unit, I perform Class IIIb laser therapy on the full body. The session still includes manual palpation to locate problem areas first, TMJ assessment and manual massage if necessary.

BEMER and Class IIIb laser are NOT the same and work very differently.

Please feel free to message me with any questions or concerns.

Great information! I incorporate thoracic sling and abdominal lifts as part of grooming/tacking up & treat stretches every post ride once the muscles are warmed up. This was part of Marty’s vet recommended rehabilitation for mild/moderate KS diagnosed in 2022.

Teachable moment: Red light therapy is NOT LASER therapy. Though both fall under photobiomodulation (see pic below) they are very very different.

Laser Therapy (Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation)
Light Type: Coherent, focused laser beams (Low-Level or High-Intensity).
Application: Highly targeted, precise beams.
Depth: Can pe*****te deep into joints, tendons, and muscles (especially HILT).
Best For: Deep tissue pain, chronic injuries, arthritis, specific musculoskeletal conditions.
Pros: Powerful, precise, excellent for deep conditions

Red Light Therapy (RLT) - LED-based
Light Type: Non-coherent light from LEDs (Light-Emitting Diodes).
Application: Broad coverage, often in panels, masks, or beds.
Depth: Superficial (skin, fat, muscles).
Best For: Skin rejuvenation, wrinkles, acne, hair growth, systemic inflammation, general wellness.
Pros: Non-invasive, great for large areas, suitable for home use.
