Here are the 10 biggest lessons I have learnt the hard way as a HEMS pilot over 7 years.

Vertical Valor magazine is proud to announce the launch of a new global recognition program: the Blades of Valor Recognition of Service, Courage and Flight, which will honor 20 individuals working in public safety aviation or helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) who have demonstrated outstanding courage, innovation, leadership, and dedication in their roles.

Nominations are now open through Aug. 1! Selected honorees will be profiled in a special feature in Vertical Valor and highlighted across our digital channels later this year.

It has been almost exactly one year since anyone in the medical transport community has requested publication of a CONCERN bulletin. While the factors behind this are probably many, the fact remains that it no longer seems to be filling a need in the air medical or critical care ground transport communities.

When CONCERN began in the mid-1980's, there were scant resources for sharing information regarding incidents and accidents in the medical transport world. Today, social media can report any incident within minutes of its occurrence. Given this reality, CONCERN became the vehicle for sharing information regarding situations that could result in an aborted transport or other injury-producing outcome. It has been a forum that has bridged corporate silos and prompted users of similar airframes and chassis to open a cowling or lift a hood to see if a similar hazard exists. It has allowed for sharing of operational and behavioral issues that changed policy and practice. Yet, its time may be over.

I am seeking input from the community regarding the future of this service. Please click on the link below to answer a brief survey that will provide some guidance as to the future direction of the CONCERN Network. Please feel free to email with your opinions or ideas (admin@concern-network.org).
