Welcome to our Sensory Garden!

We are so excited to share this space of our community! Everything put into this courtyard is designed with our residents in mind. We painted the fence to give a pop of color and visual stimulation. We have planted strawberries, sweet peppers, tomatoes, basil, lemon thyme and other herbs and vegetables as well! We also have planted jasmine trees, lavender and a lime tree!

This space allows our residents to stimulate all of their senses as well as creating a sense of purpose and relaxation.

They tend to the plants and water them while enjoying the smells of lavender, jasmine and lemon thyme. When ready, they will harvest the fruits, vegetables and herbs for our chef to use in their delicious meals and drinks!

They can also sit and relax in the various sitting areas and enjoy the smells, view and some fresh air!

We want to thank Concho Hearts Hospice for building and donating the raised planter boxes!

A sensory garden for dementia is a therapeutic outdoor space designed to stimulate the five senses-sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste-to reduce anxiety, improve mood and evoke memories. Sensory gardens improve the quality of life for those with dementia by encouraging physical activity, reducing agitation and providing a sense of comfort and purpose.
