Hi All!! Here’s a handy checklist to help you guide your child’s readiness for kindergarten, which is often a big question amongst parents as they are navigating this transition.

Our amazing occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech therapists can help your child build the needed skills to be successful in this and all stages of childhood! If you’re interested in having your child assessed, please contact our office at 701-317-2897 or email us at: admin@suedeltherapeutics.com

When people talk about kindergarten readiness, academics tend to get all the attention. But the skills kids really need to be successful in the classroom come long before worksheets.

Let's break down the foundational skills that support learning, participation, and independence, including:
• regulating emotions and calming the body
• transitioning between activities
• using the bathroom and washing hands
• managing clothing and lunch containers
• attending, listening, and following directions
• sharing, waiting, and taking turns

These are the skills that help kids function in a classroom—and they develop through play, routines, and supportive experiences over time.

Please Meet Ms. Sophia, the amazing adaptive dance instructor from North Dakota Ballet Company who runs our Adaptive Dance Class in partnership with NDBC!

Sophia grew up in Mandan, North Dakota, and dance has been part of her life for as long as she can remember. Growing up, the studio was her safe space. She looked up to her teachers so much, and they played a huge role in shaping her. Because of that, she has always hoped to be that same positive role model for the next generation of dancers.

Sophia moved to Grand Forks to pursue occupational therapy and is currently a student at UND. Alongside her studies, she trained extensively with Northern Plains Dance, focusing primarily on ballet. She had the opportunity to perform in full-length productions and community outreach performances, including lead roles such as Dewdrop in The Nutcracker and Beauty in Beauty and the Beast. Dance truly consumed her life in the best way possible, and she loved every second of it.

In addition to performing, she assisted and taught classes at NPD and helped with the adaptive dance program, working with dancers of varying abilities. She later developed and launched a dance program for children with disabilities in partnership with NDBC and Suedel Therapeutics, creating a supportive space where all children can experience the joy of movement.

Sophia truly loves teaching kids how to dance. Being a teacher has changed her for the better, strengthening her patience, leadership, and heart for service. Seeing her students grow in confidence and technique makes everything worth it. Sophia is so grateful that she still gets to experience the magic of dance in her life.

We are so blessed to work with Sophia for this amazing class!

Your child’s sloppy handwriting is telling you…

They may be struggling or having challenges with Dysraphia.

Many people assume messy handwriting means a child simply needs to “try harder,” but the truth is far more complex.

Fine motor skills — the tiny, coordinated movements of the fingers and hands — play a big role in writing. When these muscles aren’t fully developed, kids may struggle with writing, drawing, cutting, and other tasks that require precision.

For children with Dysgraphia, the challenges go beyond messy writing. Dysgraphia is a learning difference that affects the brain’s ability to plan, organize, and execute written work.

It can impact:

🔹 Fine motor control
🔹 Spatial awareness
🔹 Visual processing
🔹 Memory and language connections
🔹 The ability to get thoughts onto paper

These difficulties can make classroom tasks overwhelming and can affect a child’s confidence — especially when their hard work doesn’t match what shows up on paper.

To find out some of the hidden signs of dysgraphia and how to help your child, comment below 👇 and we’ll send you the link or grab it in the profile.

ABOUT THE PRACTICE>>>

Suedel Therapeutics and Wellness has been a long time goal and labor of love for me. Thanks to my amazing husband and family, this dream has come to fruition. Throughout my career in pediatric occupational therapy here in my hometown of Grand Forks, ND, I have observed grace and courage abound from all the families and children with special circumstances that I have had the pleasure of working with. I have witnessed heartache, triumphs, and sheer grit on a daily basis. Because of these amazing families and children, I strive to provide specialized and compassionate care that you cannot get at any other Pediatric OT Clinic in the Grand Forks, ND area. I have focused my career to meet the unique needs and demands to treat not only the physical, but also the emotional and social concerns that children with special needs and their families encounter. I am honored to be a part of the lives of all of the families and special children I meet, and feel blessed to continue to provide my expertise to support families in our community.
