Secure Couples

Secure Couples Led by Dr. Dave Jackson. I've had a couples-only therapy practice since 2021.

I help couples and the therapists who serve them build safety and real connection using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) tools that get results.

One of the things I LOVE most about the work that I do is providing EFT Mentorship & Supervision to therapists learning the EFT model of couples therapy.

I've been a clinical supervisor throughout my 24 years as Licensed Psychologist and have a unique passion for teaching. I'm often told that I break down complex EFT processes well (probably because I'm always studying EFT!!).

If you're looking to deepen your work in EFT with couples and want someone to help guide you through that process, reach out via my website so we can chat about your goals and parameters of what you're looking for in the mentorship relationship.

Please note that I call it mentorship (although EFT often refers to it as supervision, which is why I still use the word) because these sessions are a consultation between colleagues and not to be used for clinical hours toward licensure.

Several of my colleagues graciously provided feedback about what it's like working with me, which is also on my website.

Are you a therapist interested in learning more about attachment science and how we use it in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)? 💕

If so, you should join us and the talented Dr. Dave Jackson for our next EFT webinar!

Because EFT is grounded in attachment science (Johnson, 2017), understanding components of attachment is crucial.

In this webinar, we discuss not only the role that empathy plays in attachment but also how curiosity is another key component in therapy. Dr. Jackson articulates how these two “ways of being” are integral parts of both the EFT stages and steps, and the Tango in-session mini model.

✅ Multiple CE approvals: APA, NDBSWE, NDBACE, NDBCE, and MN Board of MFT. (Because several state licensing boards in ND & MN approved this course, it may count in your jurisdiction, too!)

💰 You can save by purchasing all 10 webinars in the bundle OR you can purchase individual webinars for $19

Everyone: Meet Wilson (aka Will…and I will now sing the Little W***y song for the rest of his life 😂)!!

He’s Wilson cuz his rescue name was Will (which he already knows) and is the color of a football 😍

We adopted this sweet boy from yesterday. He’s a 9ish month old herding mix, super smart, and aims to please. He’s shy at first (my wife had a big scary coat on when they met, so he’s still not sure about her 😬) but already BFFs with me!

He’s great with Fromm (gives him his space) and ignores ALL of Bella’s barking at him for being in her house (I suspect they’ll be buds once she chills out 😎).

Oh, and did I mention FETCH ALL DAY with this boy?! 🎾🎾🎾 But he’s got a great off switch and will clearly be my new Football Sunday snuggler 🥰

We’re so honored he’s letting us give him a chance at finding a safe home where he will be spoiled ❤️

Oh, Skeddy. We’re so sad to see you cross the rainbow bridge, but we love you enough to let you go out well ❤️🌈

We learned on November 19 that he had an inoperable tumor in his lungs and was declining fast. The next 2 days were filled with snuggles, a few treats (he lost his appetite), the best walk he’s ever had, and so much love.

We didn’t expect to lose him so soon (his 7-year gotcha day is on Monday, and he’s 8.5yo), but it’s never long enough anyway.

Say hi to Molz for us, Sked. I think she’ll like this version of you. Love you dearly, sweet, quirky, complex Skeddy ❤️💔🌈

Our first Relationship Retreat for Service Member and Veteran couples in Grand Forks was an absolute SUCCESS!

It's a powerful thing when you can not only help couples work to strengthen their relationship but help individuals have a deeper understanding of themselves and help them create community with others. A few things that stood out for us:

💙 People were speaking with each other (across couples) about ways they could connect and support each other outside of the retreat

💙 One person said the retreat "wasn't their kind of thing but found it helpful"

💙 Couples were talking about tough and important things that mattered to them

💙 One couple even described the retreat as "life changing"!!

Registration for our next retreat in Grand Forks (June 12-14, 2026) is now open. Our Minot dates are tentatively April 17-19, 2026, and registration will open once details are finalized.

Visit the link in our bio or www.grandforkstherapy.com/hmt to register or get on our email list to know when registration for our retreats open!

This effort is associated with North Dakota’s State Su***de Prevention Program, funded by the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Behavioral Health Division (BHD). We use the Hold Me Tight® program.

Video 10-Intimacy and Touch

Touch is powerful. It can say “I’m here,” “I want you,” or “We’re in this together” without a single word. 🤲

In this video, Katya talks about how we address this within safe and secure relationships.

At Hold Me Tight® retreats, we help couples reconnect emotionally so touch feels safe, exciting, and deeply bonding again.

Video 09-Healing Past Hurt

Past hurts can leave scars that show up in the present, through distance, defensiveness, or painful arguments. 💔

In this video, Dave talks about how there are frequently "past hurts" in relationships and how we work to heal past hurts in Hold Me Tight® retreats.

In Hold Me Tight® retreats, couples learn how to revisit those injuries safely, so instead of staying stuck in pain, they can move toward healing and forgiveness.

Because true forgiveness isn’t about forgetting. It’s about knowing your hurt matters, and finding closeness again on the other side. ❤️

Video 8-Open & Responsive

💬 “Are you there for me?”
❤️ “Yes, I’m here.”

That’s what being open and responsive is all about, and it’s one of the keys to connection we practice at Hold Me Tight® retreats.

Katya discusses how we will help partners be open and responsive to each other while also dealing with the "yikes on bikes" that comes along with it.

Video 07-HMT and CAKE

That fight wasn’t about the dishes. 🍽️

It was about wanting to feel seen and loved.

At Hold Me Tight®, couples revisit rocky moments to discover the deeper story—and write a new ending together. ❤️

In this video, Dave talks about his recommendation that couples have a lot of CAKE. Learn more about what that is and how that can help relationships.

Video 6-Dave talks about raw spots

🔥 Ever notice how a small comment can spark a big reaction?

That’s what EFT calls a raw spot, a tender place shaped by past hurts or unmet needs.

When your partner brushes against that spot (even accidentally), the pain can feel overwhelming, leading to shutdowns, blowups, or distance.

At our Hold Me Tight® retreats, couples learn how to recognize each other’s raw spots, respond with care, and turn painful moments into opportunities for connection.

❤️ Because when your partner knows how to hold your raw spots gently, healing begins.

📅 Join us at our next retreat to start that journey together.
