“I finally feel like a person who is in control.”

After 15 years in the grip of opioid addiction, Chelsea found her turning point through Altru’s Suboxone Program, a local, compassionate, evidence-based approach to recovery.

With Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), personalized support, and a team that truly cares, Chelsea found more than sobriety. She found hope, healing, and a future.

Now nearly four years in recovery, she’s pursuing her education, showing up for her son, and embracing life with purpose.

If the holidays feel overwhelming, know that help is here. Available in Grand Forks and Devils Lake, Altru’s Suboxone Program is here for those ready to take that first step.

We are excited to share CHI St. Alexius Hospital Devils Lake will become part of Altru effective March 1! 💚

“This transition reflects our shared commitment to ensuring rural communities have access to high-quality, sustainable health care close to home,” Altru CEO Todd Forkel shared. “We are honored to welcome Devils Lake Hospital into the Altru family and to further our commitment to expanding health care for the residents of the Lake Region.”

Originally, Altru had hoped for a spring 2025 takeover of the Devils Lake facility, but had to wait for CommonSpirit Health to get the faith-based hospital taken off the Catholic registry

🎁💚 Giving back is part of who we are at Altru.

Through our Adopt-a-Family event, Altru team members came together to purchase gifts for families in Grand Forks and Polk Counties.

While we may never meet the families we support, our hope is that these gifts bring joy, warmth and a little extra magic this season.

We are incredibly proud of our team for showing what it means to care for our community in meaningful ways. 💚✨

This winter our Emergency Department wants to remind you: clearing snow can be very hard work, especially on your heart. This type of snow can act like a vigorous workout and increase the risk of heart strain or injury — sometimes called “heart attack snow.”

🧤 Stay Safe While Shoveling:
Warm up and pace yourself
Take frequent breaks
Stop immediately if you experience chest pain, shortness of breath, light-headedness, or unusual fatigue
Consider asking for help or using a snowblower if possible

Your health matters — take it slow and listen to your body. If you feel symptoms of a heart issue while shoveling, stop and seek medical care right away.

Altru Hospital warns that wet, heavy snow can strain the heart, urging residents to ease into shoveling, take breaks and seek help if chest pain occurs.

Last weekend, we hosted the first Candlelight Memorial Service in the new Altru Hospital. 🕯️💚

This annual gathering offers families, friends, and care teams a quiet, meaningful space to honor the lives of beloved children who have passed. Through music, reflections, and the glow of candlelight, our community came together to share moments of healing and connection.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who filled the main level of the hospital with light and love. Thank you for choosing to spend this evening of remembrance with us. 💚
