It's be awhile since I posted here.
I hope everyone is well.

I'm looking for patient accounts of lack of accessibility to opioid pain medication in any setting.

Ie: For a chronic condition, injury, surgical/peri operatively or otherwise.

Please share on here or dm me if you'd not mind sharing.

I'm researching for an article I'm writing/working on. Thank you!!

I'm still doing patient advocacy & it's turning into some more things happening for me.

My role as an RN now will focus more on patient advocacy and joining with other such organizations to help improve healthcare for us all.

Have a loved one in the hospital or a facility? The word is ADVOCATE!
-No, things do not always run smoothly & you are (along with the patient themselves) safety nets to help the patient receive great care!
-Be involved & present. Visit often, get to know the facility & staff.
-Involve your family & bring them with to visit your loved one @ appropriate times (not bath time, etc). People do not stop needing others while in facilities.
-Ask questions
-Give input in re: likes, dislikes, needs.
-If you feel you’re not being heard, ask for a supervisor, then manager.
-SMILE & be kind to staff. They’re there to help but have hectic jobs. Most care very much & will try to help.
-Speak up when you feel you need to. If it feels wrong, it may be!
-Be a team player. Do your part to do what you can to support the staff caring for your loved one. That means understanding that they may have a very unstable patient they’re dealing with so it may take a bit longer to get you something non-essential.
Patients with advocates receive better and safer care often so don’t be afraid to be one!

TIPS FOR BETTER HEALTHCARE & HEALTH:
1-Ask questions.
WHY do I need this medication, WHAT are the side effects? Are there any alternatives to medications? Sometimes you can find ways around adding in medications.

2-Find a provider you feel comfortable with & one with whom you're not afraid to ask questions . You have the right to understand & be an active participant in your own healthcare.

3-Take care of yourself & exercise.
Exercising can reverse some health conditions & is a great way to reduce stress, promote healing & sleep.

4--LIMIT or quit using alcohol. It may seem like it's a great way to relax but there are actually healthier ways to relieve stress without the calories & effects on the organs. (Refer to #3) :)

5-Listen to your body! If you're not feeling right schedule a check up.

6-Quit using to***co products.
Your lungs can actually repair some of the damage done from smoking if you quit early enough.

7-Use alternative therapies like Reiki, massage, acupuncture, yoga for stress relief.

Much of our health truly is in our own hands if we chose to take control of it.
