At 93 years old, Edith knows how to enjoy the good things in life.

A resident at Edgewood Prairie Crossings Sioux Falls, Edith, known to family as Dee-Dee, is hardworking, resilient, and always up for a good card game. She spent nearly 35 years as a telephone operator with Northwestern Bell and brings that same steady confidence into her days at Edgewood.

Edith enjoys listening to old crooners and classic country music, staying involved in community activities, and getting to know her neighbors. Apple pie holds a special place in her heart, especially when it’s her sister’s recipe.

Ask Edith what she’s most proud of, and she’ll tell you it’s being 93, healthy, and happy.

An assessment isn’t a test, it’s a conversation.
A chance to understand daily routines, preferences, support needs, and life goals in a relaxed, personal way.

It’s about people first, not paperwork. It’s the foundation for care that feels more personal, more thoughtful, and built around the person, not the process, and there’s more to it than meets the eye.

Understanding a senior living assessment doesn’t have to be intimidating—it’s a conversation to help match residents with the right care and support.

Life has a funny way of bringing people full circle.

At Edgewood on Dominion, Dining Director Debbie and resident Don share a connection that began years ago in a classroom. Long before Debbie was leading the dining team, she was an agronomy student at Bismarck State College, and Don was her agriculture instructor.

Today, Debbie runs the dining room Don now enjoys as a resident. The lessons Don once taught about problem-solving, preparation, and balance still apply, just in a different way. Where he once taught students to balance livestock rations, Debbie now ensures each meal meets the nutritional needs of more than 100 residents, three times a day.

At Edgewood, relationships grow, stories reconnect, and purpose carries forward in unexpected ways.

“Edgewood is the place to be.
If extended care is what you need.
It’s not home, but I’ll tell you what,
It’s the very best that we have got.”

Meet Jim, the resident poet at Edgewood Rapid City, where his words capture daily life in the community.

Since joining Edgewood in December 2024, Jim has written more than 150 poems reflecting friendships, daily activities, exercise classes, and the moments that give each day meaning. He also writes about his role in “The Diaper Gang,” a group of residents who assemble care packages for newborns in the Rapid City area.

Jim has a gift for noticing the small things. He turns brief interactions and quiet observations into poetry, then shares his work with staff and fellow residents as a heartfelt thank-you.

What makes Edgewood so amazing for Jim? His love for poetry hasn’t slowed down and now he gets to share it with even more people.

Have you ever met someone who has farmed for 40 years, loves driving tractors, and has strong opinions about lobster?

That’s Patricia Torson, or just Pat, once you get to know her. Hands-on by nature, Pat has spent decades gardening, cooking, making candles, and farming, experiences that shaped how easily she connected with life at Edgewood.

Her advice is simple and genuine. “When you live here, try to talk to people. It helps.”

At Edgewood Flandreau Pat enjoys familiar routines, meaningful conversations, and the comfort of a community where the staff are always there and friends feel like family.

Thinking “maybe next month”… again?

Big decisions have a funny way of circling the calendar. Especially the ones about where and how you or your loved one calls home. Familiar feels safe. Change feels big.

But falls, missed medications, and isolation do not wait for the “perfect” time. Sometimes the best thing you can do for tomorrow is think about it today!

Families often say, “Maybe next month.” But while waiting feels kind, it can quietly add stress and risk. Learn the signs it may be time to plan ahead for senior living—before a crisis forces the move.

Some people earn their nickname the moment they arrive. At Edgewood Overland, that was Clutch.

Her humor, confidence, and energy stood out right away, and the name stuck. Born in 1938, Clutch enjoys staying busy. She loves camping, working on her art, and figuring things out for herself.

These days, her joy shows up in the dining room, where she can often be found singing “Jesus Loves Me” and shaking her hips, usually with others happily joining in.

Clutch admits she wasn’t sure what to expect, but she quickly found a community full of friendly faces, laughter, and support.

“This place is a wonderful place to live.”

That’s how Don describes life at Edgewood Fruitland and it says a lot about who he is. Known for his steady, hands-on mindset, Don spent decades managing people, schedules, and spaces, skills that still shape how he approaches each day. So, it took quite a bit to impress him!

Don enjoys woodworking and creating detailed pieces like ornaments, pictures, and crosses. He also enjoys the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and values time spent sharing stories about family and favorite memories.

At Edgewood Fruitland, Don appreciates the comfort of familiar routines, meaningful connections, and a place that truly feels like home.

We’re proud to be part of a $20 million project led by the University of North Dakota to improve diabetes care for seniors. Some couples turn an ordinary drive into something worth remembering.

That’s Henni and her husband Elwyn, better known as Shuley, at Edgewood Park Place Casper. Married since 1961, they bring warmth, curiosity, and music wherever they go.

Henni is a lifelong learner who has worn many hats, from Girl Scout camp director to critical cardiac care nurse. She enjoys reading, quilting, being outdoors, and keeping things just the way she likes them. Music is always nearby, whether she’s singing or playing her lap harp.

That's what makes Edgewood so special. We've made it easy for Henni to find comfort in familiar routines and shared moments, especially the simple joy of cruising with Shuley, windows down, singing along to the radio.
