Peggy didn’t come to Edgewood Hermantown because she had to. She came because a friend told her to. That alone should tell you something.

When Peggy arrived at Edgewood, she admits she was surprised. “Clean, bright, welcoming.”
“This isn’t a nursing home feel,” Peggy will tell you. “It’s exciting!”

It’s filled with the kind of people who know your name and mean it. From the residents, the nurses, the dining team, and so many more. “Lunch isn’t just about the food, it’s about the conversations.” Peggy loves that she gets to visit with friends every single day, right at the table. No rushing. No eating alone.

And when it comes to activities, Peggy has options. Exercise. Bingo. Entertainment. Social events. There’s always something happening. Join in when she wants. Take a quiet moment when she doesn’t. Life, on her terms.

“That’s what made this such a pleasant move for me.”
Assisted living doesn’t mean giving up your life. It means keeping it. The friendships. The routines. The choices. The joy of being around people, while still being yourself.

That’s Edgewood. We are Edgewood.

Gary’s life didn’t slow down when he moved into memory care. If anything, it found a bigger dance floor.

Gary moved to Edgewood Vista Hastings to be closer to family and brought with him a love of jokes, football, and country music. An original Missouri guy with a lifelong love for the Missouri Tigers and an equally enthusiastic allegiance to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Gary proves that rivalries can coexist peacefully, especially when football is on. On game days, you’ll find him locked in, cheering loud, and reminding everyone exactly who’s winning… or who should be.

He’s a natural storyteller, a joke-teller, and a walking Johnny Cash jukebox. If laughter echoes down the hallway, chances are Gary is nearby. Where there’s live music, there’s Gary. Nothing makes him happier than spending time with family. Whether he is cruising around town with his wife or visiting his grandkids, his smile never fades.

At Edgewood, the dancing, the joking, or the football debates don’t stop. Our residents are the heart of our communities. And if you’re wondering what life looks like in memory care for Gary, He would probably tell you this:

“Still pretty great. Want to dance?” We are Edgewood.

Angie Hilleshiem, our former President of the healthcare division, is set to retire, and over the last week, we were able to highlight and celebrate her big milestone! Angie’s story is the kind that fills a lifetime!

Angie stepped into healthcare at just 17, beginning as a certified nurse assistant. By 21, she was already shaping the world of nursing and healthcare operations. Her career rose like a steady flame, guiding teams and transforming care across the country. She held influential leadership roles in large, national assisted living companies, and in 2010, her entrepreneurial spirit led her to found All Care. Later, they merged with Edgewood Healthcare to expand home health and hospice services across the footprint (CaringEdge & OneSource). We are so lucky to have her share her talents and experiences, carrying forward a story shaped by purpose, passion, and impact.

Angie, enjoy your well-earned rest and the next exciting chapter ahead!

“I never wanted to stop learning.” JC brings her practical, kind, and unstoppable attitude to Edgewood Helena.

Though she originally began her studies in pre-nursing, which taught her the importance of health and balance, her love of learning carried her further. She earned a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Liberal Arts, and eventually, a PhD in Music in her 70s! Amazing! Music became a lifelong companion, from singing in the church choir to loving opera before it was trendy, and to today, enjoying attending the Helena Symphony with friends.

Work has always also been JC’s rhythm. She met her husband Ron over a pile of dirty dishes during a work-study job in college. Together, they built a life rooted in practicality, shared values, and sound advice: consult before every purchase, save more than you spend, and never buy what you don’t truly need.

Life, of course, has not been without hardship. A serious fall in her later years left her with memory loss and a scar on her upper lip, along with a chipped tooth she chose not to repair. Practical as ever, she decided it wasn’t worth the cost. Instead of mourning the change, she carried it with grace, letting it be a part of her story. When told that she is still extremely beautiful, she graciously responded with "Ah, I'm glad you think so" and a truly beautiful smile, chipped tooth, and all.

It's people like JC that fill our communities. “Think of me as a nice person. Educated. Someone with a little wisdom to offer." We are Edgewood.

“At the age of 16, I won a scholarship to the Art Institute in Chicago. I was unable to go due to the war, but I was honored!”

When Arlene moved to Edgewood Alexandria, MN she quickly found her tribe, fellow artists who share her love for creativity. She paints purely for enjoyment and relaxation, and while she’s no longer able to do large-scale painting, she’s found ways to keep her artistic spirit alive through coloring and sketching. Her room has become her personal creative studio, where she crafts small works of art that she loves to gift to friends throughout the community.

Walking through the halls, it’s impossible not to notice her talent on display. Her artwork proudly decorates the rooms of her friends, sparking inspiration and encouraging others to pick up brushes, pencils, or colors themselves. What started as Arlene sharing her passion has turned into a ripple effect, encouraging more residents to explore their own creative hobbies.

Whether it’s painting, knitting, music, or anything in between, we help residents like Arlene keep their passions alive. We are Edgewood.
