Celebrate Autoimmune Awareness Month for Thyroid Symptoms.

The most common cause of thyroid symptoms in the United States is due to Autoimmune thyroid, also known as Hashimoto's thyroid. Over 14 million women continue to suffer from this
type of thyroid problem.

Many women find autoimmune thyroid or Hashimoto's thyroid quite confusing and thats why it's important to celebrate Autoimmune Awareness month.

In fact, some women don't even know that they have this problem because their thyroid blood work often comes back normal or just doesn't correlate with how they feel.

Common symptoms include;

*weight gain
*hair loss
*digestive issues
*lack of energy
*poor sleep
*rapid heart beat
*hormone imbalances

Many women continue to suffer with symptoms for years, despite taking thyroid medication, such as Synthyroid or Levothyroxine, prescribed by their primary doctor or endocrinologist.

The key to getting relief is identifying the root cause or trigger to why the immune system is attacking normal healthy tissue.

"Unfortunately, many women are told their blood work is normal, even though they feel anything but normal," says Dr. Augustine.

He goes on to say, "This is usually the start of a long journey for most woman that are diagnosed with thyroid problems."

"They go from one doctor to another in search of an answer to their thyroid symptoms, often leaving frustrated and in tears because they don't feel listened to or notice any progress, even though they follow through with everything their thyroid doctor tells them to do."

Dr. Kevin Augustine says that, "According to WebMD, common medications prescribed for thyroid problems such as Synthroid and Levothyroxine continue to be in the top 5 most prescribed medications in the United States. This is a serious issue. In 2018 alone (last updated stats), there were 101.5 million prescriptions written for those two thyroid medications."

What should you eat when you have thyroid symptoms or been diagnosed with underactive thyroid, graves, or Hashimotos?

Food plays a critical factor in how fast a person can potentially heal. Either food helps your healing or it can have the potential to cause more inflammation. To learn more, check out the link below...

When a person has an autoimmune condition, such as Hashimotos or Graves, diet is of great importance because certain foods can trigger an increase in symptoms.

Foods consumed containing proteins similar to the ones that originally triggered the autoimmune condition cause the immune system to rapidly produce a massive antibody response.

Each time that food containing trigger proteins is eaten, the immune system goes into an antibody production mode and makes additional antibodies that attack the thyroid gland. This is one of the biggest causes of nodules within the thyroid.

Failure to eliminate foods containing the trigger protein from the diet causes continued destruction of the thyroid gland that produces a wide variety of unpleasant symptoms due to the continued autoimmune destruction of functioning thyroid cells.

*Tiredness
*Hair loss
*Poor sleep
*Hormone imblance
*depression
*dry skin
*brain fog
*bloating

Perhaps the best indicator of autoimmune dietary triggers is an awareness of foods that that provoke symptoms such as abdominal cramps, bloating, brain fog, fatigue, and a “hung over” feeling in the 24 to 36 hour period after ingestion.

Take the guesswork out of eating right with The Food DNA UPrint from Health Solutions Plus.

HASHIMOTO’S , GLUTEN, AND LECTINS
Antibody production (TPO & TBG) may actually begin with a healthy diet of natural plant based foods which happen to contain proteins called gluten and lectins.

Gluten is a plant protein found in many grains, whereas lectin is a protein found in members of the bean, soy, and peanut families.

Gluten is receiving more attention these days in the autoimmune world, but lectins not so much. However, they may play an important part of a patient’s thyroid story.

In certain genetically predisposed individuals, gluten and lectins can irritate the walls of the digestive system, ultimately creating microscopic cracks in the intestinal walls ( “leaky gut”). This can also cause bloating and weight gain particularly in the belly area.

These foreign proteins are recognized by the immune system as being “non-self” since they are structurally different from an individual’s own unique proteins. The immune system can then inadvertently produce antibodies that attack its own cells.

When antibodies are produced against a foreign cell surface protein similar in structure to the body’s own surface proteins, there may be a close enough fit for the antibody to attack the body’s own cells. This is the #1 cause of thyroid nodules.

It's always best to find the root cause of the problems in the first place. There is no one size fits all approach that works for everyone.

WHAT CAUSES THE SYMPTOMS OF HASHIMOTO’S?

The symptoms of Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism are identical to those experienced by anyone having low thyroid function, with some hyperthyroid symptoms thrown into the mix.

Common symptoms of hypothyroidism;

*fatigue
*weight gain
*depression
*hair loss and brain fog
*trouble sleeping
*hair loss

These symptoms are the result of an inappropriate immune reaction that kill off the body’s own thyroid cells, resulting in a reduction in the capability for your thyroid to make hormones.

Hyperthyroid symptoms, such as episodes of sweating, nervousness, rapid heart rate, palpitations and tremors may occur simultaneously with symptoms of hypothyroidism.

Symptoms become progressively worse over time as more thyroid hormone producing cells are killed off. That's why it's important to find the CAUSE to the symptoms rather than just addressing the symptoms.

WHAT IS HASHIMOTO’S THYROIDITIS ?

The immune system serves as a defense system to eliminate foreign invaders like viruses, bacteria, and cancer. Where things get complicated is when your immune system makes mistakes and attacks your own body parts as if they were the enemy and that includes your thyroid gland.

Why does thyroid blood work come back normal?

People who suffer with the symptoms of an underactive thyroid gland and test positive for antithyroid antibodies have a unique form of hypothyroidism known as autoimmune or Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.

Autoimmune thyroiditis is one of the most common causes of hypothyroidism that can cause....

*Tiredness
*Weight Gain
*Hair Loss
*Dry Skin
*Digestive problems
*Hormone issues

Understanding the root cause of the autoimmune attack is key to addressing these problems. Unfortunately blood work often comes back normal even though many people fee anything BUT normal

New to thyroid problems...

How to adjust diet?

I'm 58, my whole life i've been struggling with putting on fat
despite my effort to fight it.

Few weeks ago i was diagnosed with hypo (TSH 7.5).

I'm lifting and dieting for about 14 years. I know how to track my macros and calories. I did keto and IF.

When I read about eating, there is so much conflicting information;

Eat small meals often
Do IF (intermittent fasting)
Don't do Keto
Do Keto and so on.

Everyone is unique.

There is no one "right" way to eat that is applicable to everyone.

I’m sick of doctors that just think I’m “fat because I’m lazy.”

I’ve been dealing with thyroid issues for numerous years now.
Every doctor has brushed me off, probably assuming I just wanted
easy weight loss or something.

➡️ ALWAYS cold. I wore a wool coat indoors yesterday,
while my friends were in T-shirts.

Very dry and itchy skin.

➡️ Anxiety. Full throttle, almost all the time. And I used to be
the “chill friend.” HA!

➡️ Fatigue. I will occasionally nap twice a day on weekends
because I’m so tired.

➡️ Brain fog/memory loss. Have forgotten people’s names that I’ve known my whole life, amongst other things.

Poor quality sleep. I practice good sleep hygiene like not using my phone hours before, no coffee after 12pm, complete darkness, exercising in the morning, etc, but I still am on the verge of crying from exhaustion when my alarm goes off.

➡️ WEIGHT GAIN. So so much, despite a healthy, fiber-full, calorically-balanced diet with no processed foods, no sugars, very little salt, etc.

I make nearly every meal at home from scratch, including dressings, pasta (for occasions), and so on.

I exercise hard 3-4 times a week, including a few miles of running for cardio and heavy weight lifting. I’m 5’6 (F). I have usually weighed 140 without trying too much.

I weighed 160 in June 2019. This was a total blow to me emotionally because I’ve been very strict about my eating and exercising patterns.

I now weigh 180 even though I “skipped” the holiday traditions for fear of additional weight gain. No matter what I do, I keep gaining weight.

I’m tired of every doctor asking me if I’m pregnant and “if I’m sure.”

One of them brushed me off and told me to “eat less”
(I was eating 1,300 cals a day and exercising more regularly than now).

They tell me to “just use lotion for the dryness” as if I hadn’t thought of that??

I’m losing hope.

I want some advice on how to push for what I need, without seeming like a crazy person that just wants drugs.

I’m sick of doctors that just think I’m “fat because I’m lazy.”
