It's a fact, skin cancer can happen to anyone, regardless of skin type. In fact, skin cancer in darker skin often presents differently and may be harder to detect compared to lighter skin tones. It frequently appears in less sun exposed areas, such as the palms of hands, soles of feet and under the nails.

Early signs include dark spots, growths and lesions that change in size, shape or color.

Because skin cancer can be less visible in darker skin, it's crucial for individuals with skin of color to perform monthly self checks and pay attention to anything new, changing or unusual on their skin. Visit a dermatologist at least once a year for a full body skin exam.
