In the world of dance, where dedication, discipline, and passion intertwine, it's easy to get caught up in the pursuit of perfection. Dancers set big goals and diligently push themselves closer to their dreams. ⁣

This may seem admirable, but keep in mind that it’s not worth it if you are sacrificing your most basic needs that keep you healthy physically, mentally, and emotionally. 🤯⁣

Ignoring pain, whether it’s physical or emotional, will backfire one way or another. 💥⁣

𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁, 𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁; 𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱. 💛⁣

Getting that role you wanted in the next performance isn’t worth your body or mind suffering. 😫⁣

Honor your human needs first, and your dancing will naturally improve.✨️⁣

As a dancer, do you have a good understanding of your body's capacity versus the load of your training schedule? ⁣

Understanding these concepts can accelerate you towards your goals and avoid overuse injuries, which are very prominent in dancers.⁣

Not gonna lie - this blog post is a little dense, but there are some good visuals to help demonstrate the concepts.⁣

Had an absolutely wonderful time at the this past weekend! ⁣

🚲 Enjoyed biking around town. Saw the International Evenings of Dance III on Saturday with breathtaking performers 🩰 ⁣

💃 Danced with .aspen in Vail Village while we were exploring the town and the botanic gardens 🪻

🎫 Then saw on Sunday evening perform three incredible pieces of choreography!⁣

Such a treat to see so many amazing professionals and connect with other artists in a beautiful part of the world. Next year I'll have to plan to stay for more of the festival!

𝗢𝗸, 𝗯𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁. How many of us only stretch before dance class? Just sitting in your splits and trying to stretch out before class starts?⁣

Well, there's a better way to prepare your body for dancing. You may already know that you need to be doing more in your warm-up, but does your mind go blank when it's time to warm-up and you get stuck on figuring out specific things to do? There's an easy formula to follow! It's called the RAMP Protocol. ⁣

Check out my latest blog post to learn more. There's also a video showing examples of things you can include in your warm-up. ⁣

This past weekend, I traveled to Spartanburg, South Carolina, to work with dance students on strength and conditioning for dance. I also got to see perform 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙚 featuring choreography by 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗮 𝗚𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘇 and 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗹𝗽𝗵.

This was a special weekend since I grew up dancing with Brandon and Kendall Teague, who was in Brandon's piece. Brandon is a company member with the Mark Morris Dance Group in New York.⁣ His choreography is unforgettable and never ceases to inspire me!

It was wonderful to have an impromptu reunion and see how much each of us has grown as humans and artists!
