GRAND JUNCTION, Co. Twenty-six unclaimed veterans will receive full military honors for their service. In addition, two spouses of these veterans will be interred as well. A detailed list of information for each of these veterans is attached.
The community and media are invited to attend the public event hosted by Martin Mortuary, a proud member of the Dignity Memorial network of funeral, cremation and cemetery providers, in conjunction with the Dignity Memorial Homeless Veterans Burial Program and the Missing in America Project. Please bring portable seating if necessary as there will be limited seating available.
“The Dignity Memorial Homeless Veterans Burial Program is a cooperative effort designed to ensure that veterans who are homeless, indigent and have no family receive the honors in death that their service in life merited,” said Richard Lewis, Grand Junction chairperson of the Dignity Memorial Homeless Veterans Burial Program and general manager of Martin Mortuary. “We’re honored to be able to give these veterans the dignified military service they deserve.”
The burial is organized in partnership with the Missing in America Project. The Missing in America Project seeks to locate, identify and inter the unclaimed cremated remains of American veterans through the joint efforts of private, state and federal organizations, and to provide honor and respect to those who have served this country by securing a final resting place for these forgotten heroes.
