Christopher Lepisto, ND

Christopher Lepisto, ND Better health, naturally I am Doctor Christopher Lepisto. You may seek out my care for a number of reasons. You may simply want to improve your overall health.

As a naturopathic doctor, I specialize in helping the body to naturally achieve and maintain optimal health. Today, many of us develop health challenges which result from the stress of our busy lifestyle, leaving us feeling exhausted and overworked. This is a defeating experience for those of us who are accustomed to feeling strong, energetic and vibrant. I work closely with my patients to address the root cause of their health challenges, rather than simply treating the superficial symptoms. The natural solutions I provide are designed to give the body the necessary components to heal, regenerate, and operate in peak form. But you don't have to suffer from a particular condition to set a visit. I understand what your body needs for optimal function and performance throughout all stages of life. I provides unique treatments and solutions to help your body perform at its best and maintain health through the body's natural ability to create its own vitality, rather than treating symptoms with pharmaceuticals which mask the underlying problems. Naturopathy is particularly well suited for chronic conditions such as asthma, muscle pain, allergies and arthritis, as well as disorders that may have a stress- or diet-related factor, such as digestive problems, insomnia, skin disorders and fatigue. If you've never been to a naturopathic doctor before, you'll be delighted with the level of personalized care you receive. Unlike visiting an allopathic physician—where you are seen by the doctor for only a few minutes, given a prescription and sent on your way—your treatment with me will begin with a thorough health evaluation and assessment, as well as a detailed investigation of any specific health concerns which may have prompted your visit. I will continue to see you actively over the course of 5-8 weeks to measure how your body is responding to treatment, and adapt your specific treatment plan accordingly. After the initial treatment course, I will likely recommend occasional follow-up visits to ensure your body is performing at its best.

If you believe you have a gluten sensitivity, how much does that affect your reactivity to it? I'm fascinated by an article on the relationship between Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Gluten, and belief. It showed that expectations play a major role in symptom generation, along with reactivity to gluten itself. It matches my experience that if you believe something is detrimental (or beneficial), it will affect health outcomes. (credit Biotics Research)

Dragging fatigue can only be partially explained by rapidly declining sunlight in the fall. It can be worthy to check blood indicators for a deeper story of imbalances like thyroid, adrenal or nutritional deficiencies. Stay tuned for a bigger picture of fall fatigue in my next newsletter.

How do you know what is best for you and your family on the dinner plate? The old tradition of choosing a meat around which to build your meal differs greatly from the current message we often hear, "go plant-based" for better health. While each of us must answer this for ourselves, I encourage a consideration around the quality of meat and animal products, rather than simply wether to eat them or not.

Wondering if coffee increases your longevity? A meta-review of current research suggests regular, moderate consumption (1-2 cups daily) of coffee results in a reduced risk of all-cause mortality. There are benefits for cardiovascular health, type II diabetes, estrogen receptor negative and post-menopausal cancer reductions, while not aggravating atrial fibrillation. It can increase the risk of glaucoma, sleep disturbance, and anxiety, so a tailored approach is warranted.

It is disappointing (but unsurprising) to hear multiple U.S. scholastic and governmental authorities dismiss any concern around the connection between acetaminophen and autism, when consumed during pregnancy. Stay tuned later this week for my newsletter exploring the evidence.

You may not think of organic milk fat as an anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory metabolism optimizer, but it is. In multiple studies, Conjugated Linolenic Acid (CLA) found predominantly in organic milk fat from free-range, grass-fed cows, also enhances immune, brain, respiratory and cardiovascular function. Quality animal products are a part of my overall wellness approach to health and vitality, especially as we age.

If cortisone injections are failing to relieve your joint pain, it's time for something stronger. SPMs (Specialized Pro-Resolving Mediators) are a powerful class of supplements derived from the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA found in fish. They are concentrated for greater potency and help break through osteoarthritis. These are superior compared to standard fish oils, which are surprisingly ineffective if you are on Ibuprofen, Celecoxib or other NSAIDs. I'll help you find the right product and get you back to the activities you love.

Deep, restful sleep gets more elusive as we age. One of the key factors to soothe the nervous system, trigger relaxation and promote sleep is magnesium, but not all supplemental forms are the same. Magnesium glycinate/glycerophosphate works better for stress, anxiety and sleep. Magnesium malate works better for headaches, heartburn, depression and upset stomach. I'll help you obtain a quality product, tailor dosing and get you back to that renewed vitality that comes from solid sleep.
