HDHC strongly stands with the research backed belief that conversion therapy is unethical
In Chiles v. Salazar, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Colorado’s ban on conversion therapy, the practice of trying to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity. The March 31 ruling compromises the ethical standards of professional counselors and, according to American Counseling Association (ACA) and others in the medical community, puts those exploring their sexual orientation or gender identity at risk of serious harm.
ACA and the Society for Sexual, Affectional, Intersex, and Gender Expansive Identities (SAIGE) — a division of ACA — will continue to advocate for policies and laws that protect clients from harmful practice and support client wellbeing and maintain that conversion therapy has no safe place in ethical counseling.

Mary Sanchez, owner, healer and therapist at High Desert Healing Center has over 30 years of experience in the mental health and human services fields. Much of Mary's experience lies in working with diverse populations who were not financially able to access healing services due to financial constraints. Mary was called to Grand Junction by the red rocks and mountains from St Louis, MO. Upon arriving Mary met Kristi Courter who has also worked in human services for 30 plus years. Kristi has extensive experience serving people experiencing disabilities and a long history of coaching young women in multiple sports. Mary and Kristi shared similar dreams and began the physical manifestation of these shared visions. Mary and Kristi are nurturing and manifesting a large scale dream of offering healing services/education and workshops that are accessible and affordable to all.
The first phase of this dream was to create High Desert Counseling, a group of therapists who would be willing to take Medicaid and offer high quality sliding scale services to the the Grand Valley. High Desert Counseling was created in 2017 and has been thriving since that time. Mary was the first and only licensed professional counselor then grew a team of three experienced therapists offering counseling services.
Phase two began January 1 of 2019 with a name change and new physical home. High Desert Healing Center was born! Mary is a reiki master/teacher and has now taught several new healers who are offering traditional reiki and intuitive reiki energy healing. Soon the center will be home to crystal healing mats, a crystal light bed and a far infrared himalayan salt sauna. Many talented healers will be visiting and facilitating individual and group healing opportunities as well as workshops. High Desert Healing Center will provide healing experiences for every income level with specials, packages and opportunities provided by love donations.
The center is a vision guided tribute of gratitude to the elements, guides and source, a peaceful environment for healing. Rooms at the center are available to rent for small groups, individual healing and workshops.
Phase three will be creating a women built roundhouse for nature connected workshops, drum circles and moon ceremonies on a sacred 35 acre property in glade park backing up to a canyon.
This work in progress will continue to flow and grow in love, gratitude and divine guidance with purposeful intent.
