John R. Gault

John Robert Gault, a masonry legend, passed away on November 16, 2025, due to a tragic motorcycle accident. A California native, born on April 9, 1975, John was a remarkable individual whose impact resonated deeply within both his profession and his family.

A dedicated and hardworking man, John showcased his extraordinary skill as one of the best masons in the valley. His commitment to his craft earned him a revered place among his peers and marked him as a figure of respect in the community. Education was important to John, and he laid a strong foundation for his life as a talented baseball player at Central High School.

Those closest to John remembered him as a caring person who genuinely loved his family and kept his friends close. His generous spirit shone brightly in every interaction, infused with a captivating personality that made him both a badass and a loving figure. John had a particular fondness for his gold tooth, his tattoos, and the joy of dancing, which often brought laughter and light to those around him.

John's interests extended well beyond his professional life; he enjoyed riding his bike and motorcycle, and he treasured the time he spent playing with his grandchildren, Izabella Bingham, Andres Bingham, and Mateo Gault. These moments of joy were further enriched by his love for relaxing after a long day with a good movie, a gourmet steak, and perhaps rolling a joint. He relished a unique bond with his family, particularly with Ian, his son. Together, they created cherished memories, including walks along the river where John introduced Ian to the art of fly fishing and memorable trips to California. John made Ian feel invincible, and their connection was one of pride and admiration, especially as Ian observed his father's recent determination to do better in life.

John leaves behind his son Ian Gault and Ian’s wife, Anai Gallegos; his son, Evan Gault; his daughter, Hayden Gault; his parents, Kathy and John McConaghy; and three beloved grandchildren, Izabella Bingham, Andres Bingham, and Mateo Gault. He is preceded in death by dear family members Dolores "Mimi" Burns, Matthew Wood, and Joe and Velma Garcia.

As we remember John Robert Gault, we celebrate not only his impressive accomplishments but also the light and warmth he brought into the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy will undoubtedly endure through the love of his family and friends, forever echoing in the cherished memories they hold dear.

William Carl Bush

William Carl Bush, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on October 8, 2025, surrounded by his cherished family. Born on September 1, 1948, in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, Bill grew up in Eagle before finding his forever home in Fruita. He was a devoted Army Veteran who carried the values of service and dedication throughout his life.

Bill was often described as the kind of man every neighborhood hopes to have—always ready with a warm smile, good advice, and a helping hand. He embodied the spirit of community and believed wholeheartedly that “neighbors help each other.” Whether it was fixing a sprinkler, mowing a lawn, or lending an ear, Bill was there, leaving a lasting impression on everyone whose life he touched.

A passionate car enthusiast, Bill's love for automobiles spanned a lifetime. His journey began with a 1948 Chevy and culminated in the proud ownership of a 2006 Mustang. He took great joy in attending car shows, sharing stories, and showcasing his impressive collection, which grew to encompass an astounding 40 cars over the years. His zest for life extended beyond vehicles; Bill had a deep love and compassion for all living creatures. He was known for gently rescuing strays and even the smallest of insects, embodying a kindness that was often met with amusement by his wife, Kathie.

Bill's professional journey was marked by 44 years with Cummins Rocky Mountain, where he worked as a parts technician. Throughout his career, he forged countless friendships, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and a strong work ethic that inspired all those around him.

At home, Bill found solace in his yard, delighting in the beauty of nature and engaging in detailed model projects. Yet, his greatest treasure was his family. For 33 wonderful years, he was the devoted husband to Kathie, the love of his life. Together, they built a warm and loving home filled with laughter and joy. Bill was incredibly proud of his three beautiful daughters—Colin (Chad) Horton, Linda Bush, and Courtney (Page) Morris—and he adored his four grandchildren Dylan, Horton, Trevor Murdy, Jaron Murdy, Shaylee Horton , who illuminated his life in ways words cannot fully capture.

Bill's loving nature extended beyond his immediate family. He was deeply cherished by his in-laws, who loved him as one of their own, and he made lasting connections with many outside his family circle. Above all, Bill will be remembered for his generosity, humor, and unwavering kindness, making everyone feel welcome and valued.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathie; his loving daughters, Colin, Linda, and Courtney; his grandchildren, Dylan, Shaylee, Trevor, and Jaron; his sister, Donna Lewis; his nephew, Lance Vialpando; and his brother John (Liz) Morris, who will all carry forward the light and warmth that Bill exuded.

She enjoyed game and tea time with many friends from her southern baptist church, cooking, potlucks, outings with her family at various places through town. She also enjoyed singing at church. She loved to travel far and wide and be out and eat the best food. It was there she also longed for, desired and enjoyed time with others. She loved her dog Libby and her southern music and country, patriotic ways !. Ms Maxine or “Mut” was never afraid to face challenges in life including her latest illness. She could advocate for those in need and offer a hand out. Her faith in God was the basis of her existence and she spread that message to all who surrounded her. We will never forget her Fish fries, fried chicken, potato salad, banana pudding, peaches n cream , or her touch to the grits she stirred, or any dish she made ! No one could scramble an egg or filet a fish or snap a pea quite like her! …..

Success consists of having a good relationship with all passengers , requiring that we give the best of ourselves .

The mystery to everyone is , we do not know at which station we , ourselves , will step down .. So we must live in the best way , love , forgive and offer the best of who we are .

Gertrude Hayashi

Gertrude Elaine Hayashi joined her Heavenly Father, in the Kingdom of Heaven, on June 16th, 2025. Her final moments were with Shanna, at the HopeWest Care Center. She left this earth at the admirable age of 76.

Gertie lived an amazing and full life, overflowing with love and accomplishment. It started when Gertie was born on August 2,1948, to Mickey Jim and Geneva June Hundley-Drake in Grand Junction, CO. She remained in the valley, growing herself, her business, children and grandchildren,

Being the 7th of 8 children, she spent most of her time working and playing with her many brothers and sisters. With Mom working as much as she could, the oldest took after the youngest and, the youngest played. Despite being too poor to afford most things a child would want, they made the best of it, with never a dull moment. Whether it was trying to help momma in the kitchen, using the old washboard for laundry, or splashing in the local rivers and canals. Always constantly being harassed by the older brothers, in good fun of course.

In 1964 Gertie married Dewey Lee Wilder and had a son. Charles Eugene Wilder was born in 1965. They quickly divorced after. She started waitressing at the Crane’s Cafe, taking care of her son, soon to embark into cosmetology school. The year being 1973. While at the Crane’s, she met Oliver Hayashi, when he bought the restaurant. They soon fell in love and had their daughter, Shanna Suzanne Hayashi. They were married in 1981, and remained together until his death in 2015.

In 1975, Gertie completed beauty school, graduating as one of the top of her class. She spent the next 30 plus years owning her own salons. She first owned The Trend with her best friend and partners Beau Gonzales and Lucia DiThomaso. She then spent the rest of her career, owning Lakeside Hair and Nails with Gloria Vance. She ended up selling Lakeside to her long time employee Lynn Lard, Gertie had to retired in 2010 to stay at home and take care of her ailing husband, Ollie. After Ollie had passed, she spent her time being the best mother, grandmother, and great grandmother that anyone could ask for. Her best moments were holding them and hugging the ones too big to hold. Through everything, until the end, she always gave a hug and a kiss and made sure you knew she loved you.

After several years and a few trips to Oklahoma, relaying information gathered by various family members, in 2005 she and her whole family were accepted into the Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma. Paving the way for generations the heritage she was sure of as a child. The Daily Sentinel even featured an article in the paper because of DNA being used as proof.

Besides spending time with family and friends, she enjoyed playing softball and dancing. Winning several trophies and prizes. Music was a staple in her life. Passing her love to her children and grandsons. Many road trips were made enjoyable with sing alongs. Classic Country and Gospel were her favorites.

Gertie is preceded in death by her son Charles (Chuck), her husband Ollie, both parents, 5 brothers Jimmy, Don, Johnnie, Denny and Mickey, and sister Mary. Niece Cindy Miller and nephew Travis Drake.

Gertie was loved by many and is survived by daughter Shanna, grandsons Trevor Wilder (Emmalynne), Josiah Hayashi and great grandson Ezra and great granddaughter Emry Wilder all of Grand Junction. Sister June(Dwayne) of Montrose. Twelve nieces and nine nephews and several great and great great nieces and nephews.

A memorial is planned for later.

Dennis Keith Sellers

With a heavy heart, we are saddened to say Dennis Keith Sellers I passed away on July 4th, 2025. Dennis was born on October 4th, 1957, in Denver, Colorado, to his mother Eula Mae, who sadly passed away when he was just seven years old. He was immediately adopted and lovingly raised by Mary and Leonard Sellers. He later enlisted in the Navy in 1977. After getting out of the Navy, he decided to begin his chapter in the truck driving business with his brother Steve, while also sharing a passion in everything related to motorcycles. Years later, while living in Southern California, he met the love of his life and soulmate, Betty Lou Crutchfield, and her son Justin—who quickly became one of his own. In the early spring of 1988, they married, and on December 9th brought their second son, Dennis Keith Sellers II "Denny," who was almost Leonard Skynard Sellers into this world. The four of them lived in Southern California, moving to Texas, eventually ending up in this beautiful city, Grand Junction. Dennis’s unconditional love and compassion for his faith, family, and country were deeply strong. His drive to provide and protect his family was limitless. Dennis enjoyed spending time with his family and friends—driving big rigs, riding motorcycles, and fishing. Oh, wait—watching football too. Go Broncos! He really had a green thumb for gardening; you name it, he could grow it. Dennis is survived by his two sons, Denny and Justin; his mother, Mary; his brother, Kevin; and sisters, Kathy and Lennete; and many nieces, nephews and friends. As we say goodbye, it feels only fitting to remember that his birthday was on October 4th—10-4—a phrase in radio language meaning “message received.” It’s as if he was always meant to stay connected, to be heard and understood. Known by his handle Nighthawk, he now takes flight one final time—flying high in heaven, where he is reunited with his soul-mate Betty Lou. Though he may be gone from our sight, his spirit carries on—strong, steady, and clear. 10-4, over and out.
