Hello everyone!
We are going to start a fun little thing to educate people on the functions of each vertebrae! The goal is to cover one vertebrae every week.
Our spine consists of 24 vertebrae. We have 7 cervicals, 12 thoracic , and five lumbars.
✨This weeks vertebrae is the Atlas! ✨
The Atlas is the fist bone in the neck. Otherwise known as C-1. (C-1 stands for cervical 1).
The atlas allows us to shake our heads no, and nod yes. The most important function of the atlas is it protects the brainstem. Our brain controls every single bodily function, so it is pretty important for it to be protected. The atlas is also crucial for one’s balance.
🤩The nerves that correlate with the atlas lead to: our eyes, ears, brain, scalp, and pituitary gland
A subluxation (misalignment) of this vertebra can allude to a variety of symptoms and health issues.
This issues can include, but are not limited to:
Headaches and migraines
Poor balance
Vertigo
TMJ symptoms
Neck pain and stiffness
And an overall disruption of nerve flow!
Fun fact 🤓 I named my son after the atlas bone!
