Yesterday marked a major milestone for CareFlite with the grand opening of our new standalone base at Gainesville Municipal Airport 🚁

While CF5 has proudly served this community from North Texas Medical Center for almost a decade, this new base is a game changer for how quickly we can respond. Moving from a hospital-based space to a dedicated standalone facility at the airport allows our crews to reach the aircraft faster and get back in service more quickly, improving response times when every second matters.

This is more than a new building, it’s a direct investment in the communities we serve across Cooke County and beyond. Faster access to the aircraft means faster access to life-saving care.

We’re incredibly proud of what’s been accomplished and grateful to everyone who helped bring this vision to life, especially the team at D & B Construction Inc..

A special thank you to the elected officials, first responders, and community leaders who joined us, including Mayor Tommy Moore, for your continued support and partnership.

CareFlite Helicopter Landing Demonstration

Our EMT students had the opportunity to observe a CareFlite helicopter landing on campus, providing a real-world look at aeromedical transport and career opportunities in emergency medicine. The CareFlite crew demonstrated how air medical services operate, including patient transport capabilities, crew roles, and the critical decision-making involved in helicopter evacuations.

Students also learned how to properly establish a safe landing zone (LZ) for medical evacuation. Key components included selecting an appropriate landing area, maintaining scene safety, securing loose debris, marking the landing zone, and coordinating with fire and law enforcement personnel.

This hands-on experience gave students valuable insight into the teamwork required between EMS, fire departments, law enforcement, and air medical crews during emergency situations.

Special thanks to the CareFlite crew, Rockwall Fire Department, and Rockwall Police Department for their support and for helping provide this meaningful learning experience.

CareFlite is deeply grateful for the outpouring of
support from our EMS and healthcare community during this difficult time.

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Bryan Crane, Vice President of Ground Operations and Communications at CareFlite.

Bryan dedicated 23 years to CareFlite, beginning his career as an EMT and growing into a respected and trusted leader. He was known for his humility, empathy and unwavering support for those around him. Bryan had a remarkable ability to listen, lead with compassion and put others before himself.

Beyond his professional contributions, Bryan was a devoted husband and father, and his impact extended far beyond our organization.

The loss of Bryan is deeply felt across the CareFlite family and the communities we serve. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched.

We ask that you keep Bryan’s family, friends and colleagues in your thoughts during this difficult time. Details regarding services will be shared as they become available.

On April 2, 1982, CareFlite lost three of its own, Tom Brown, Rick Fee, and Bill Walker, in the line of duty.

More than four decades later, we pause to honor their lives, their service, and the legacy they left behind. Their sacrifice continues to shape the safety, training, and commitment that define who we are today.
