Hey here's some exciting news!

I'm rolling out a new referral program for this year. This is an opportunity to save $15 on your next session of any length, as well as save your friends or family the same amount for their first visit. All you'll have to do is put your name down on the backside of this card and send it off with your referral for when they come in for their scheduled session.

Alternatively you can just skip the card exchange and let me know when your referral comes in. I can run the same discount without the paperwork!

As many of you know, I'm a solo practitioner which puts me in the small business category. Wellness practitioners are largely word of mouth based so each time you invite a friend or family member to hop on the books, you're helping support your local economy! I see and appreciate each and every one of my enthusiastic clients who have trusted me with their friends and loved ones. It's a huge honor to provide this service to greater Grand Rapids and I couldn't do it without you!

Thanks for your years of trust and dedication.

It's been four months and some change since I moved my office into the GR Therapy Collective on the Beltline here in Grand Rapids. The reception has been great and I'm incredibly grateful to be working alongside some very talented therapists and bodyworkers. Have you checked out the new space yet? What's stopping you? Check the link in the comments to see what services I offer or feel free to reach out and let's chat about how I can help you reach your wellness or pain management goals.

Did you know that I have online offerings?

They come in the form of two distinct opportunities. The first is Mindfulness Meditation, and the second is Clean Language Facilitation. Both of these are offered either in person or over zoom so you can engage with them from the comforts of your own home. In case you're new to either of these, lets break them down real briefly.

1. Mindfulness meditation is an awareness practice which helps us become more familiar with our own minds and reality as a whole. It also helps us be more present and less consumed by our thoughts so we can *actually* settle into what's unfolding in front of us - even if it's challenging.

What's cool is that it's an ancient practice that's been transmitted from teacher to student in an unbroken chain that goes back some 2600 years - to the the time of the historic Buddha. Don't worry though, you don't need to be a Buddhist to engage with it, you simply need to have a sense of curiosity and genuine interest in exploring your mind. The benefits are:

- A pathway to becoming unconditionally friendly toward yourself
- Increased sense of resilience, stability, and clarity when confronting life's challenges
- A more regulated and balanced nervous system
- More curiosity and less reactivity
- A deepening sense of real grounded moment to moment presence
- More spacious (not spacey) qualities of mind. As in, not so overwhelmed by excessive thinking.

I've been certified to teach mindfulness since 2020 and have recently taken on a few students which has been an absolute treat. I've worked with a team of teachers for six years and have a committed and flourishing daily practice. I am very confident that I can help you establish yourself in this practice and defuse any potential hang-ups that may arise on the way!

2. Clean Language is a mind-body practice that allows our thinking minds an open space to have a conversation with our felt sensations. It was developed primarily for treating anxiety, trauma, and other mental health challenges - but has gone on to be used in professional development, artmaking, and just about every other coaching modality. The way that I incorporate it into my work is by having my clients focus their attention on a physical sensation. We then use the clean protocol to explore that sensation, which naturally takes the client on a journey into the interconnectivity of their mind, body, and emotions. The protocol is a very simple series of questions that creates a 'clean' space in that they're very open ended and free from any of my bias or judgement. This creates a sort of linguistic mirror that the clients can use to see more clearly the topography of their inner life.

It's really something that needs to be experienced. It's tremendously helpful, inspiring, and insightful. Some of the benefits are
- New connections between our thoughts, feelings, and sensations
- New potential pathways towards injury recovery and emotional stabilization
- Client generated resources to help navigate uncertainty and tensions
- Oftentimes an immediate sense of relief
- Self understanding and discovery
- A deeper embodied appreciation for the intelligence of the body

Both of these are available in person and virtually through the Zoom platform. I'd love to work with you if you're feeling the pull in this direction so don't hesitate to reach out. If money is a thing, which it is for a lot of people, just let me know and I'm sure we can work out a pricing model that works for you. Take care!

Hey friends, I just published a new blog about a topic that is near and dear to me. It's about a process called 'Clean Language' which is a mind-body practice that I'm certified to share with others. This is one of the offerings that I have as a part of my 'Brett Kane Bodyworks' business and I think it's super rad. If you want to learn more about it as well as some interesting cognitive science about how metaphor is used as a fundamental building block for our orientation in the world, give it a read!

There's also another blog that I forgot to promote exploring the concept of 'Safety' as it relates to our nervous system, and ultimately how massage can help us have more of it! Some heady stuff going on over here.

That’s the TLDR version of what this article is about. If you’re a returning reader though, you know that I can’t just leave it at that. So let’s take a little trip together into the world of Clean Language and see if this is a practice that could potentially bring you benefit. The History o...

New Blog Alert!

This weeks blog post is about the increasingly important nature of 'lifestyle medicine'. It's essentially asking the question, 'what are some of the known variables that are contributing to our experiences of pain - and how can we shift them to produce better results?' It's vitally important for those of us that struggle with chronic pain conditions, but also important for those who want to avoid pain in the future. Give it a read and let me know what you think!

New blog post up on the site!

This one is an important one as it addresses something that many of my clients experiencing chronic pain inevitably mention. That is, whether or not they should seek out an MRI for an explanation to their pain. The science is pretty clear on this one, and it's quite interesting! Give it a read if you're into this sort of nerdy stuff - or if you're someone who's considering taking this route.

Well it's official, I'm hosting another four week series on mindfulness meditation!

Times they are a changing, and I'm sure many of you in my community are feeling...well...a lot. With that, I feel that it's important that I bring forward this incredible practice that has provided me so much benefit these past five years.

Mindfulness as a practice is extraordinarily simple to understand yet fairly tricky to actually do. This is why it's traditionally learned in a student-teacher relationship. This course is designed both for beginners who have never meditated, as well as those who have been practicing for some time but could use some fresh inspiration. It combines a modern secular approach with ancient Buddhist wisdom - the same as it was taught to me through my teacher.

I'm confident that after these four weeks, you'll be able to commit to a long term practice if you wish to continue. At the very least, this space we co-create will serve as an opportunity to downregulate your nervous system, slow down for a minute, and catch your breath.

The best part of it is that it's only $100, which is very cheap considering the preciousness of the gem that I'm handing you. It's genuinely changed my life unlike anything else that I've done. Also have I mentioned that it's going to be a hybrid class? This means that you'll have the option of meeting with us in person or from the comfort of your own home with Zoom.

This will take place in Grand Rapids Michigan at the Eagle Park Wellness Collective on the corner of Leonard and the Beltline. Feel free to reach out to me through here or follow the link in the comments to register through my website! I hope to see you there!

Hey there, just wanted to let you all know that I released a new blog post today! This article is all about how we can get the most out of a massage therapy session. Not only does it cover some of the basics of interfacing with massage but it also goes into some deeper waters on the potential to utilize massage as a practice that helps us generate insights into our lives. Groovy! Link in the comments!

Hey friends, I have some exciting news!

I relocated my massage practice into a cozy office in the Eagle Park Wellness Collective of Grand Rapids, MI! My two and a half years spent at the Benji Salon and Spa was a great time for me to germinate my business but the time had come for me to branch out and find a space that reflects my values and energies a little more closely. The EPWC is a great coalition of holistic practitioners of all different stripes and it's pretty awesome to be joining such a diverse and talented group of folks.

With that said, this is a vulnerable place to put myself as I am no longer underneath the umbrella of another company. My client outreach is now limited to my individual efforts. So if you or anyone you know is in the market for some massage therapy, feel free to reach out to me through here and let's get something set up for the new year!

If you want to know more about what I do, there are plenty of blog posts that I've written over on my website (can be found down below) that go into great detail on my approach and philosophy. They're pretty solid reads if I do say so myself.

If you're not looking for any bodywork, sharing this post could also go a long way in ensuring someone in your network can find me! I'd be hugely appreciative and will send you a surplus of good vibes for the year ahead.

Either way, I hope this year brings you whatever it is that you're looking for in life.
