March is Women’s History Month, and we are highlighting Imperial leadership. Liz Wegner, Project Manager III and supervisor, shares how curiosity and clear communication guide her work with clients and teams.
The qualities I rely on most as a leader are curiosity and communication. Over time, I’ve learned that some of the most meaningful leadership moments come from being willing to ask “why” and recognizing that I don’t always have the full picture.
In the fast‑moving, complex world of clinical trials, staying curious helps me understand the
intent behind requests or challenges. That discipline has helped me make better decisions, avoid unnecessary risk and surprises, and stay focused on the bigger picture.
Communication is what brings that understanding to life. I work hard to be transparent and approachable, whether I’m partnering with clients or supporting my team. When people share a clear sense of the bigger picture, the work has a stronger foundation to improve.
To me, leadership is about creating an environment where questions are encouraged, different perspectives are respected, and people feel comfortable speaking up. When teams understand the “why” behind their work and feel genuinely heard, they’re empowered to deliver thoughtful, reliable service that builds trust and truly makes a difference.
