Who is Tiburcio?
Tiburcio Lince (he/él) is native to San Antonio de Guadalupe, Chalchihuites, Zacatecas, Mexico where he grew up in a farming community before moving to the United States in 2002 to the state of Texas. While in high school, Tiburcio joined the TRiO Program Upward Bound where he would develop a love and interest for first-generation college students. While in college, Tiburcio began working at Tarleton State University UB Program in 2006. In that role, Tiburcio mentored high school students, translated materials for Spanish-speaking families, and sharpened over 1000 pencils for the program.
In 2012, Tiburcio graduated from Tarleton State University and began his graduate coursework at Texas State University - San Marcos (Go, Bobcats!). While working for TRiO Rural Talent Search, Tiburcio supported high school students, school districts, and TRiO Student Support Services in developing a college-going culture in the Texan rural setting all while enjoying San Marcos’ famous breakfast tacos.
After, Tiburcio started working for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion in 2015 where he managed the campus-wide cultural programming calendar and oversaw two race-conscious mentoring programs for men and womyn of color. In October 2018, Tiburcio becomes interim director of the office and in and in 2019 Tiburcio is appointed the first Latinx person to direct the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and International Programs. In terms of community engagement, Tiburcio supported Texas Court Appointed Special Advocates in DEI and sensitivity training, collaborated with high schools in efforts like FAFSA Nights or College Nights.
In July 2022, Tiburcio makes his way to Northern Kentucky University to serve as director of Latino Student Initiatives within the Center for Student Inclusiveness. In that space, Tiburcio collaborated with internal and external partners to support Latinx, Undocu_, and International Students and led the Latinos Avanzando Mentorship Program and a Latinx in STEMM high school program called Ignite Hispanic Scholar Association in the Bonne County School District all while serving in the Board of Directors for the English Language Learning Foundation Inc., advised the non-profit F.I.E.S.T.A. NKY Org., and supported Refugee Connect, COMPASS, Immigrant and Refugee Law Center of Cincinnati, the Catholic High Schools Latino Outreach efforts, and translated for parent/teacher meetings when time allowed.
Tiburcio’s praxis is guided by identity exploration, intersectionality, and sense of belonging and mattering. An avid cafecito lover, pan dulce connoisseur, and a Whovian, Tiburcio loves spending time cooking replicating his mother’s and sisters’ recipes, traveling, and watching foreign films. You will likely find him volunteering at different community events and food festivals or traveling the country on weekends freelancing for a national leadership development company.
