Today, on the Winter Solstice, we reach the peak of darkness here in the North. For months, the light has been fading. But today marks the turning point, from here, the light begins its slow, steady return. I am so grateful!

This natural cycle mirrors our own inner journeys. We all have seasons where our inner light feels distant, overshadowed by the “parts” of us that work so hard to protect us—the Relentless Nurturer, the Watchful Gatekeeper, the Critical Pruner.

But just as the sun begins its return, we too can cultivate our own inner light.

This January, as the days grow longer, join me for “Being Who I Want To Be.” In this workshop, we’ll gently explore those protective parts, learn to soften their grip, and connect with your core, compassionate self—your inner Wise Gardener. It’s a chance to align your personal growth with the returning light.

Let’s step into the new year not with pressure, but with presence. The light is coming. Let’s tend to your inner light, together.

Feeling the urge to numb out with endless scrolling, extra treats, or just checking out? Meet your Escapist.

This part seeks relief from pressure and obligation through distraction. It’s a protector trying to give you a break, but its methods can leave you feeling disconnected.

A gentle reminder for your Escapist Part:
“I can meet this feeling. I am strong enough to be present with what is, even for a moment.”

Try this instead: Stand and feel your feet on the floor. Inhale, then exhale with a long “Voooooo” sound. Repeat while looking around, noticing colors and shapes. This simple sound anchors your nervous system in the present.

Do you silently take on all the holiday work, hoping your sacrifice will earn love? That’s the Martyr part in action.

This part believes your value comes from what you do for others. It carries the heavy burden of responsibility, often feeling unappreciated. It’s a protector that learned love must be earned.

A gentle reminder for your Martyr Part:
“My value is inherent. I am worthy of rest and help, regardless of my productivity.”

Notice the heaviness. Sit down and feel the chair fully supporting you. Place a pillow under an elbow to support your shoulder. With each exhale, imagine releasing the burden onto the chair and floor. You are allowed to put it down.

Is the Martyr part carrying too much weight this season?

Feeling a wave of sadness for holidays past? That’s your Nostalgic Child longing for the comfort and safety of how things used to be.

This young part holds precious memories and traditions. It’s not trying to make you sad; it’s seeking the connection and warmth it once knew.

A gentle reminder for your Nostalgic Child:
“I honor the past by carrying its love forward, not by clinging to its shadow.”

When longing arises, cross your arms and give your shoulders a gentle, firm squeeze—a hug for your heart. Take a deep breath and send compassion to that younger part of you. Whisper, “That was then, and this is now. I am here with you.”

Is nostalgia bringing more bittersweet than sweet this year?

You Are Not Alone In What Feels Unspoken.

In my group sessions, we often start with a simple but powerful question: “Who, like me…?”

Who, like me, has a relationship where something important remains unsaid?
Who, like me, carries a gratitude that feels too big for a simple thank you?
Who, like me, has a part that just won’t let them rest?

This isn’t about problem-solving. It’s about validation. It’s the profound relief of seeing hands go up around the (virtual) room and realizing your experience is shared, understood, and met without judgment.

This is the foundation of my work: creating a community where we can befriends parts of our story, together.

When the holiday chaos hits, do you feel an urge to just check out? That’s your Protector part stepping in.

This part tries to shield you from disappointment and overwhelm by encouraging withdrawal or cynicism. It’s trying to help by building a wall, but it can leave you feeling numb and disconnected.

A gentle reminder for your Protector Part:
“It is safe for me to be present. I can choose my level of engagement without shutting down entirely.”

If you feel cynical or numb, focus on your feet. Press them firmly into the floor. Wiggle your toes. Then, bring your hands up and slowly push them forward, as if gently clearing space around you. This helps you feel present without being overwhelmed.

A Glimpse into Tending Together

“We tend to our gardens, our pets, our homes… but how often do we tend to ourselves?”

In a recent Tending Together session, we explored what it means to intentionally tend to parts of ourselves that often go unnoticed like disappointment, longing, or the subtle ache of things not being as we wish.

We didn’t try to solve anything. Instead, we got curious. We listened. We brought gentle support through touch, breath, and presence.

This is the heart of my work: creating spaces where you can slow down, connect with your inner world, and learn to hold yourself with the same kindness you so freely give to others.

If you’ve been longing for a moment of quiet connection with your body, your emotions, or the younger parts within, I invite you to join our next Tending Together session.

📅 When: Tuesday, December 16
⏰ Time: 10am CT | 8am PT

Feeling the pressure to create a flawless, magical holiday for everyone? Say hello to your inner Perfectionist.

This part is driven by a deep desire to make everything perfect, believing that’s the only path to joy. It’s an ancient protector trying to prevent criticism and ensure everyone feels cared for.

A gentle reminder for your Perfectionist Part:
“Joy is found in the imperfect, connected moments, not in the flawless ex*****on of a plan.”

When you feel tension in your forehead and eyes, try this:
Sit comfortably, support your elbows, and gently cover your eyes with your palms. Breathe. Let the darkness and the support of your hands give your striving mind a rest.

Is the Perfectionist running your holiday show?

What if you gave yourself just 30 minutes to tend to what truly needs attention—without any pressure to fix or change anything?

In our last Tending Together session, we explored the gentle, compassionate practice of tending to disappointment. We noticed how it lives in the body, how younger parts of us still hold those feelings, and how simply bringing supportive presence—a hand on the heart, a weighted blanket, a moment of acknowledgment—can soften even the hardest edges of emotion.

This is what Tending Together is all about: creating intentional space to be with what is, just as it is. Through somatic awareness, parts work, and nervous system support, we learn to meet ourselves with curiosity and care.

You’re invited to join our next Tending Together session on Tuesday, December 16 at 10am CT | 8am PT. This is a free, 30-minute Zoom gathering where we gently explore what’s asking for attention—body, mind, or spirit. My Tending Together sessions are hosted from my free community space.

No experience needed. Just you, exactly as you are.

Does the holiday season come with an automatic “yes” button you can’t seem to turn off?

Meet your inner People-Pleaser.

This part of you works tirelessly to maintain harmony and connection, often at the expense of your own energy. It’s not a flaw; it’s a protector trying to keep you safe from conflict or disappointment.

A gentle reminder for your People-Pleaser Part today:
“My worth is not determined by others’ happiness. True connection can handle authenticity.”

Try this simple reset:
When you feel pressured to say “yes,” place your hand gently over your heart. Feel its warmth. Take a slow breath and silently say, “I hear you trying to keep us safe. I’ve got this.”
