Wanted to share what I wrote today to a persona friend who lives in Des Moines, Ia while I am in Grand Rapids, Mi. In regards to him having trouble with SLEEP:
Ha! I did ponder that being you are an hour behind me! Sleep is HUGE. You need to recover. I have always slept like a rock fortunately, but in today’s world it’s a common problem. I had a big talk with a patient who is a big wig Amway. He said, “my sleep is terrible. I wake up after a few hours and I am always thinking about work stuff.” I told him that is a reflection of your daily awake stress/mentality. I have found that most people with sleep issues don’t have life balance. They work when they are home or they can’t seem to separate the most important stuff into balance. I call it the Wellness Wheel. The wheel has 4 basic “Healths of Time use”:
1. Work Time
2. Family Time
3. Personal Time
4. Spiritual Time
Ask yourself if for most of your LIFE, have you been in one of those zones A LOT? For many successful men like you, it’s work. I would come home in the early days of opening and running a business (which I have no formal training on how to do it), and would spend most of my focus no matter where I was, on “the practice.” I would be home with Nicole but my mind would be at work. Brianna as a toddler would be right next to me wanting and needing my full attention, but in my mind. I was at work. Now, you know being an owner of a business…the work never really stops….until you decide to start controlling it all. I will tell you what I learned and what I told my patient yesterday: 1) present time consciousness…in America, it is taught to run run run the Ratt race of success. But it is vital that you start seeing “success” as your “well-being.” Do I want to be on The Crusieship or the Nursing Home? Health is truly our number one asset in Life. There is no wealth, without Health. But what is Health? Its function and pursuing the nurturing of the nature of being human which God gave to us and to self heal. No doctor can heal your cut on your arm…YOU do, and you do it based on your own level of function…and the brain regulates all this function inside out with an innate intelligence only God can explain. But the population largely in America, BELIEVES in a spoonful of medicine, not a god like presence inside all of us. That’s what they “sell.” So, as long as I look good and feel good = health. WRONG! How many people have you known through the years who “looked great” one day died while running the next or were told they have cancer next? All the sudden. It wasn’t all the sudden. It was slow and insidious and BANG…health is function and function is directed by the brain inside your helmet skull and down the chute through your spinal column (spinal cord). And you only FEEL 10% of your bodies Function! We can’t feel arteries clogging nor your spine degenerating…we often only ever feel later stages of dis-ease…lack of ease and in business and American LIFE, we are STRESSED ARTIFICIALLY. Stree via mental, spiritual and physical and toxic means. All are culturally created. The ways and means you and I have been told and sold is then The American Way. But it’s all smoke and mirrors. Health is the light and sickness is the dark. We all have to realize if it’s not too late, that I THINK I have to answer every call for my business when it’s FAMILY TIME! And then what happens, is your innate wonders where the fun is or where your wife is or where your God is and where are YOU? YOU are imbalanced in your nervous system because you are imbalanced in your awareness and choices about LIFE! These come through as a Subluxation, a short circuit that manifests in your spine due to constant stressors that finally and physically tenses around the central nervous system and literally pulls your spine around changing mechanics and aging quicker and finally what was meant to protect your spinal cord and nerve channels, becomes the very cause of its physical interference. Now we have Subluxation DEGENERATION! Motion of the spine joint decreases, inflammation cycles increase, scarring increases and movement stops in that joint and discs can no longer hydrate and they suffocate and now the spaces through and out the spine shrink… your brain thinks you are injured and so it then starts to grow bone spurs like melting wax to try and save what’s left and eventually literally suffocates the very organ (spinal cord) and nerve roots via stenosing and impringing your nervous system function highways and you are now sick on a level you still often don’t FEEL! It’s crazy people haven’t started to understand what chiropractors have known for decades! But it’s all STRESS…physical repetitions (staring at the computers and tablets and phones and football injuries and car accidents and falls out of the bunk beds and being ripped and pulled into the world AT BIRTH! It’s mental instability and watching the wrong things and those mental thoughts cause feelings and those feelings are intertwined with postures and you are like I need to go golfing (while at work) but you skip it cause you THINk you have to work, etc. And then there is the Spiritual Warfare…what you sin, how you have been sinned against, the society that promotes lust and all the bu****it and finally what you have my friend is a stressed out god not feared dysfunctional ball of crap that expresses as low energy, brain fog, headaches, neck pain, back pain…then most believe that if I just work out more and eat green things…it helps but never paying attention to THE STRESSORS and where all these energies and postures end up! The SPINE and nervous system! You ever see a stressed out wrist? Our mind, body and sprit and all these 3 areas that make up our LIFE express their forms of stress through the brain and spinal cord. So, after all I have said, understand that one of the most NATURALLY gifted things God made for us is SLEEP! And if you ain’t sleeping regularly you are on another level of STRESS because you can’t therefore, recover and heal regularly. So, find out where you are currently subluxated by xray at a DC. Look and your life work mental balance and start making certain you can stay present at home with family time, and at work with only work time, and at Hawkeye games with only personal time and with God with God time and stop crossing over these boundaries that take you out of the present REALITY and into your story of thinking past and unknown future bu****its! The only time that is actually real is RIGHT NOW! Everything else is a lie and your story about what ifs and past transgressions, etc. Be more alive than ever by forcing yourself to be present. You take calls only at certain times. You check email only at certain times. This way, you stop stressing over opening actual snail mail when you should be reading email because it’s “email time” not snail mail time. Hang work life on the tree on your way back into your house (family time). Tell your wife and kids and work not to bug you when it’s Hawkeye time or workout time or golf time (personal). Stop crossing boundaries and stop believing that you can’t! YOU MUST! Just shut it off and know those emails will be there when it’s actually time to open them and Work Time.
Lastly, in addition to the wellness wheel of time and thought management, throw all meds in the trash if any, (you are not going to heal and stabilize on toxic, lifeless poisons), and eat as much alive and organic energies as possible…colorful and alive. Move your body and oxygenate and stimulate hormones through a HIIT program 2-3x week. Only 15 minutes are necessary, 2-3x week. You don’t need to run on a treadmill for an hour. Do 2-3 strength building sets per week…arms, legs, abs/back. 10-15 minutes per section is all you need and bands work great. Start slow, and easy. LIFE is NOT a race, it’s a PACE of love and beauty and balance if you will give yourself permission to be so. Get adjusted for stress, not pain only. Balance your time. Love God. Enter the Cruiseship and sleep like a baby! Love you!
