The Village Doula GR, LLC

The Village Doula GR, LLC For most families, navigating through the postpartum period can be both challenging and overwhelming.

A woman faces a number of physical, social, and physiological changes during this time. The postpartum doula’s job is to come into the home to "mother the mother" as she adapts to her new identity. By nurturing the mother and supporting her physical and emotional needs, she is then better equipped to nurture and bond with her newborn. The postpartum doula offers professional, non-judgmental support, companionship and evidence based information in several areas. She is there to assist with the family’s needs during the first 3 months of transition. Her services include but are not limited to: helping mom/partner/family process the birth story, recovery from pregnancy and birth, adjusting after an adoption or surrogate, bottle and breastfeeding support, basic newborn care and development, parent/infant bonding skills, sibling care and adjustment, supporting mom’s spouse/partner, allow mom time for self care, support for mothers with perinatal mood disorder, overnight care, light housework and organization, and simple meal prep. The postpartum doula also takes on an educational role in the household and can make referrals and recommendations to the family when necessary. For more information please contact me info@thevillagedoulagr.com or visit https://www.thevillagedoulagr.com

(Postpartum planning and prenatal visits are also available)

Happy BIRTH-day to me…15 years ago I became a mom to a 9lb12oz baby girl who has grown into a beautiful young lady. It changed the trajectory of my life in so many ways. I fought hard for , a fight that took me through severe , a fight that took me for a trip to an inpatient stay at a psych unit when Riley was just 10 weeks old.

Today I fight for others that are suffering in with because it isn’t meant to be done alone whether you have a diagnosis or not.

Today is which aims to raise awareness of issues so that more pregnant and postpartum parents will get treatment and fewer will suffer in silence.

In many countries, as many as 1 in 5 new mothers experience some type of perinatal mental health disorder.

Know a new mom? Ask her how she’s really feeling and encourage her to seek help. You do not need a diagnosis to ask for help.

Call or text the PSI HelpLine: 800-944-4773/Text en Español: 971-203-7773.

This year I am teaming up with Postpartum Support International’s The Climb Out of the Darkness campaign, which is the world’s largest event raising funds and awareness for the mental health of new families.

In 2010, I lived through some of the most desperate and challenging days of my life. A Perinatal Mood Disorder isn’t what you expect to encounter when you give birth to a beautiful new baby. Unfortunately, I now know why some people choose su***de as an end to their means. When you can’t stand to be in your own skin and the light at the end of the tunnel has vanished it is hard to push forward, let alone take care of a newborn. I felt worthless, overwhelmed, and overcome by severe anxiety and insomnia but fought to find my “normal” self again. My own patient advocacy and the strong support system I had at home helped me get through some of my darkest days. I am proof that if you dig into the depths of one’s soul you can overcome anything that comes before you in life, however, no one should have to do it alone. I hope that my experience can help other mothers and families survive this awful demon. This is WHY I CLIMB…I climb for myself, for those who came before me, for those that come after me and for those that are no longer with us.
