These are two of the things that have been profound part of my wellness journey, both physically and emotionally.

I can talk about both at length for hours. ✨

And these aren’t the only two.

What I love about systems like these are how it highlights parts that play out on autopilot. The things that get in our way and make us feel stuck. And illuminates for us the possibility of choice and new actions.

Typing systems shouldn’t be used as a crutch to continue bad behavior. They are a framework that can create more room for self-acceptance. It’s so easy to self-reject in a world that operates on comparison.

Second, I find these extremely helpful to understand others simply from the basis of everyone is different and has different motivations, fears, and desires. And it’s this that drives behavior.

Perfection. Achievement. Helpfulness. Uniqueness. Mastery. Safety. Freedom. Protection. Peace.

And in this understanding, we can connect more deeply and authentically with ourselves and others rather than taking things so personally.

The comment sections are the worst. And then there’s the media.

“Pseudoscience!”
“Unproven!”
“Dangerous!”
“Not evidence-based!”
“There is no cure!”

Actually, it is based in science.

Actually, iatrogenic causes are the third leading cause of death in the US. (That means related to medical procedures or treatment.)

Actually, education reduces danger in the relativeley low risk that exists.

Actually, reversing symptoms is possible.

Actually, there are millions upon millions of people finding health and healing outside the conventional medical system right now.

I always wonder with these people, what are you so afraid of?

Are you really so afraid of…plants, real food, yourself?

He left urgent care with a sling and some notes.

But here in naturopath land, there are SO MANY possibilities for broken bones.

So many that I didn’t even think about this one until a day or so later.

Bone broth is a rich medicinal food for whole body health, and it’s especially potent for supporting and healing broken bones.

My son broke his collarbone. We’ve got a lot going on. And this is the recipe-ish for this week’s crockpot broth. (What I can remember!)

Bookmark this! It’s deeeelicious.

BONE BROTH RECIPE
1 organic rotisserie chicken (meat shredded for soup - everything else goes in the pot - you can buy bones from a butcher shop - opt for pasture-raised or organic) 1 long burdock root (Found at Whole Foods or Asian markets) Beet greens & magenta stems Fresh turmeric Several stalks of celery 3 carrots 1 onion Parsley Salt & Pepper Purified water poured to top, covering everything 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

*Everything is organic (except burdock, but this is a prolific “weed” so it probably is). Everything is roughly chopped.

**You can put any veggie you want into this. I used to keep a bag of scraps in the freezer.

I keep the slow cooker on low and after an overnight we start drinking it. I added more water a day or two in.

Today, I checked the bones and couldn’t easily break them, so I added more water and ACV. Once bones start to crumble (or veggies start burning-ew) it’s time to strain and transfer the broth to mason jars to refrigerate or freeze. Use cheesecloth and a non-plastic strainer for this process if you want pure golden liquid (that will become gel once refrigerated 😍).

Three things I put in my water daily.

🌱 Chickweed (Stellaria media)

This herb is a tiny little nourishment powerhouse. It touches lymphatics, liver, kidneys, endocrine, skin, intestines, and lungs.

It helps with dry and inflamed tissue states and is known for its action in weight loss, particularly in connection to hypothyroidism. Simultaneously, it’s helpful for thin, malnourished states.

🌱 Skullcap (Scuttelaria spp)

Skullcap is another tiny, leggy plant that packs a punch for the nervous system. It regulates overstimulated and hyper-active states, making it a wonderful herb to add to protocols where sensitivity to fragrances, sound, light, food, or touch are present.

This herb is also great when you’re quick to react emotionally, particularly in snappy, moody anger. Many women find calm in this herbal ally while PMSing. But it’s not just for women.

Think wired but tired. Frayed nerves. And inflammation.

🌱 CellCore Hydroxygen

This remedy helps your body use hydrogen and oxygen more efficiently and effectively. These two elements are foundational to your overall wellness.

If you’d like a link to any of these products, message me. You’ll support my business in doing so. 🙏🏻

With herbs, please work with an experienced someone or do your own research on whether they are right for you. In many cases they’re fine for most, but some have contraindications with pharmaceuticals. Herbs are the people’s medicine. No gatekeeping here.

I opened my shades to find this pretty little winter display. Such cozy winter magic, yet it’s a problem in the making.

It’s been in the negatives here in Michigan, and it’s my first winter experience in this home.

I’ve kept the shades drawn to keep my bedroom warmer. The hundred year-old, single pane windows are pretty leaky. But it made for a crystallized frost build-up. The nearby bathroom shower humidity could be a contributor, too.

I left the shades open to get some air circulation and will keep an eye on any melting to soak up with a microfiber cloth to prevent any water damage and mold formation on the windows frames and sill.

I couldn’t resist the charming window display opportunity to share a mold prevention PSA: If this is happening for you, put a fan on for air flow. Dry up any moisture daily. Check for humidity issues. And if your windows are newer and this is happening, you might have other issues to address, like broken window seals.

Here are five ways to test from old illness. Plus what I don’t do.

Mold can affect just about every body system, including your brain.

This article I reference by neuroscientist Dr. Anna Maria Matziorinis speaks to the cognitive dysfunction associated with mold exposures.

This is exactly why I’m not big on diagnoses. Because it often limits the search for root cause.

Those symptoms of adhd, dementia, or autism? The brain fog, anxiety, and depression? It might be mold.

And when you fix the environment, you fix the symptoms.

Naturopathy with a somatic approach has been my focus since 2014.

Exploring the limiting belief systems stored in the body that manifest into physical, emotional and mental health symptoms and disease

Identifying imbalances in organs, glands, and nutrients with muscle testing

Working with natural remedies like herbalism, homeopathy, and flower essences

Integrating energy work and craniosacral therapy as part of healing protocols

Teaching people how to tap into their personal energetics as a means for not only stress management, but for profound healing, navigating relationship dynamics, expanding capacity, and even deepening intuitive and psychic ability

Becoming skilled in working with complex health issues and helping people regain their health and get their life back.

Built an expertise in how to navigate mold illness. I learned first-hand when standard naturopathic practices just weren’t fully working after I discovered mold was a contributor to more than 50 symptoms I was experiencing back in 2020.

I love this work that I get to do. It’s not going away, but I’m working on something more that will continue to extend your ability to create healthy environments.

Any guesses?!

Just a couple thoughts.

As always, your symptoms are part of a holistic picture and rooted in your unique life experience.

I’m a believer that you’re not resigned to a life of [insert symptom/diagnosis] simply because it’s common—age related, gender related, disease related or otherwise.

Save this recipe!

Oil Cleansing Method
DIY Face Wash

1 part castor oil (antibacterial)
1 part jojoba/sweet almond/grapeseed oil
1 part Neem oil
*Optional: add 20 drops essential oil per ounce of oil, like tea tree, rose otto or frankincense (rose and frank make your skin so soft!)

Rub into skin. Soak cloth in quite hot water. Hot is essential for removing the oil. Press, don’t scrub, against your skin. Rinse and repeat several times.

p.s. this doubles as a moisturizer!

What’s helped clear your skin up naturally? Share your magic in the comments.

Traditional Naturopathy + Somatic Therapy

Hi! I’m Kara McNabb.

Working with the fundamental principles of traditional naturopathy – finding the underlying root rather than bandaging symptoms – I use non-invasive assessment tools like muscle testing, sclerology and iridology along with a holistic counseling method and somatic awareness to help clients explore physical and mental blocks that contribute to dis-ease, discomfort and physical and emotional complaints.

I work with myriad remedies and modalities and incorporate them as needed, including: • Herbalism • Flower essences • Energy work • Craniosacral therapy • Somatic dance expression • Jo work • Holistic counseling • EFT/Tapping • Homeopathy • Essential oils • Raindrop therapy • Reflexology • Enneagram • Reichian character structure/personality patterns • Greek humoural temperaments • And much more

For me, this work is a practice in presence, both for myself and for those I work with. It’s my intention that each client feels seen and heard and discovers their personal paths to freedom – whether that’s mentally, emotionally or physically – through working together.
