On August 15, 2015, I graduated from the Aveda Institute Massage Therapy program. 5 years ago TODAY I reopened my massage practice in Grand Rapids after relocating from Minneapolis.

True North Salon and Spa Inc and Old Central School have been such a special home for me. Thank you to all my clients, past and present, for inspiring my practice! I feel privileged to continue pursuing my vocation to be apart of your wellness story!

Hello hello dear friends! Lucy here from Luma Massage Therapy with some exciting news!

I'm back in the game and ready to provide you with exceptional massage therapy once again. Although my availability is limited for now, I've opened up online booking so you can still request an appointment with me. Don't worry, I'm always happy to work directly with you to get you scheduled and catch up with you!

Loosely, here is my schedule for now: Monday/Tuesday/Friday 12:30-3pm and 10-1pm on Wednesdays.

My availability will open up again in March after my husband's swim season concludes with the state meet (Go Thunderhawks!). Thanks for being an awesome supporter of my business and I can't wait to work with you again soon!

Hello Luma patrons!

I have some wonderful news to share with all of you. On June 29th, our newest addition, Adam, was born, and I couldn't be happier. As a proud mom, I will be taking some time off for maternity leave to spend quality time with my little one. He is 6 days old and being a very good baby! My husband Eric and I couldn't be more thankful! 

Rest assured, I will return to providing quality custom massage therapy! My husband and I are going to focus on finding our sea legs as parents and taking time to enjoy the beginnings of this new chapter as a family first. Once I figure out my plan, I will send out another email to my client list along with social media updates to begin scheduling appointments. Please feel free to correspond with me the and I do hope to see you out in the community! I suspect I will either have the babe strapped to me or in a stroller - Looking forward to introducing our little Addy to Grand Rapids!

I want to thank you for your continued support and understanding during this special time in my life. I will miss being in the studio, but I am beyond tickled to be a mother and to hone some skills in infant massage therapy!

TLDR: Still accepting appointments for April and May!

As many of my friends, family, and clients know, I am entering my third trimester of my first pregnancy. My perspective as a massage therapist and experiencing this new season of life has me reflecting on all topics:

how the human body is remarkably resilient, how we can do hard things, how important it is to not only give yourself grace in times of challenge, but to actively practice it?

I'm amazed at how connected and inspired I've felt in my massage therapy practice during this family-expansion experience. It's been a wild trip, but I am here for it! Through caring for others, I am nurturing myself and the future. My body is changing to accommodate an ever growing child, but my work has been beautifully complimentary with my condition. I'm in awe.

I'll conclude with this: I am still working through April and May and will play June by ear. If you have interest in booking a 60 or 90 minute Deep Relaxation massage or are looking for head/neck/shoulder focus work, please feel free to reach out!

Although I may not have a huge plethora of availability and might not be able to fit you in before babe arrives, I would love to take notes in order to connect once I return from leave.

Do you sometimes feel that your massage didn't really quite help? (yes with me, but in general with most experiences?). Yep, felt better for a while, but the same chronic issues keep popping up?

Massage therapy has a limited scope of practice, meaning, it would be unethical for me to give you any diagnosis or recommendations for exercises. I often recommend to clients to consider pursuing a deeper understanding of why they're feeling discomfort or pain. Even though clients often enjoy great relief, I am not trained or certified to take the next step with them.

I often run into the situation in which clients have very real issues and massage therapy has limited impact on the conditions. It can be frustrating for us both!

If you have the time and means, you can get a referral from a doc to see a physical therapist, but even then its often very limited by what is prescribed and how much time you get with the PT. They do help, for sure, but folks like Dr. Daigle’s, who are independent practitioners, often are able to really spend time with you. Plus, they have LOADS of education and training specifically to help your body work properly and more efficiently!

I'm sharing his info and below message in hopes to spread some awareness. You can and deserve to feel better, but above all, you have to do more for yourself. It's worth a shot!

"You can do more for yourself than any provider can.
My goal for all my patient interactions is to diagnose the root cause of the symptoms/condition. Then I explain my findings and educate on best self care. I then explain my treatment abilities and come up with a plan to address the concerns.
