On World Hearing Day, the specialists at Michigan ENT and Allergy Specialists are encouraging early detection and preventative care to protect hearing for a lifetime.

“I usually encourage patients to start getting hearing tests around age 40,” said Dr. Karlina Didion, audiologist at Michigan ENT & Allergy Specialists. “You can start to compare as time goes on.”

While hearing loss becomes more common with age, today’s increased exposure to loud volumes — especially from headphones and digital devices — can impact children and adults alike. Consistent loud noise over time can cause long-term damage.

Parents should also consider a hearing evaluation if a baby is experiencing speech delays or frequent ear infections. Early testing can make a significant difference in development and long-term outcomes.

Taking proactive steps today helps protect your hearing for the future.
