In honor of ❤️American Heart Month ❤️ let’s talk about heart- healthy diets

Heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death in the United States — but the good news is that many risk factors are preventable. One of the most powerful tools we have? A heart-healthy diet.

Adding these foods to your plate can make a big difference:
🥬 Leafy greens (spinach, kale)
🐟 Fatty fish (salmon, tuna)
🥑 Avocados
🫐 Berries
🌾 Whole grains (oats, barley)
🥜 Nuts & seeds
🫒 Olive oil

Small, consistent choices can help lower blood pressure, reduce cholesterol, and support long-term heart health.

From a public health perspective, promoting access to nutritious foods isn’t just about individual choices — it’s about creating healthier communities. When we improve food access and education, we improve heart health outcomes for everyone.

This American Heart Month, consider one heart-healthy swap you can make. ❤️

If you could solve ONE public health issue tomorrow, what would it be?

• 1 in 4 adults with mental health problems also have a substance use problem
• People who experience one form violence are more likely to experience other forms of violence
•3 in 4 adults have at least one chronic disease, which is the leading cause of illness, disability, and death in the U.S.
•Barriers such as cost, transportation, and structural racism limit access to healthcare and resources for people who experience health inequalities

Public health is broad, interdisciplinary, and full of opportunities to make a real impact. Professionals work towards multiple public health issues, from maternal & child health to community-wide vaccination initiatives. But, if you could choose one public health issue to solve tomorrow, what would it be?

Vote in the comments:
• Mental health & Substance Abuse
• Violence & Safety
• Chronic Disease
• Health Equity & Access to Healthcare

Each of these issues affects communities in different ways and understanding what future public health leaders care about most helps shape priorities, programs, and solutions.

From mental health support to chronic disease prevention, every issue matters, but which one speaks to you most?

✨ Why do we choose the Program? ✨
Because builds future public health leaders!

Choosing the right graduate program is a big decision, and the MPH experience should be more than just classes. It should challenge you, support you, and prepare you to make a real impact.

From hands-on field experiences and community-based projects to supportive faculty and flexible career paths, our students say the MPH program helped them grow into confident public health professionals.

February marks Black History Month, an observance that honors the history, resilience, and contributions of Black communities.

In public health, this month also serves as an opportunity to reflect on the importance of equity, justice, and community-centered approaches to health. Black leaders, practitioners, and advocates have been instrumental in advancing prevention strategies, addressing health disparities, and promoting access to care across communities.

Recognizing Black History Month reminds us that public health is not only about health outcomes, but about the social, structural, and historical factors that shape them. Advancing health equity requires ongoing commitment, collaboration, and action.
