Happy Transgender Day of Visibility! 🏳️⚧️
***There's a small call to action for each of you at the end of this post :)
Today we celebrate, honor, and hold space for our trans, two-spirit, non-binary, and gender non-conforming community — here at Catalyst and everywhere.
Visibility is complicated. It's powerful and political. It's brave and sometimes costly. It looks different for every person, every day. Some days visibility is a celebration. Some days it's a target and a weight. Some days it's a quiet, internal knowing that doesn't need an audience. All of that is valid. All of that is real.
Some hopeful new data for your day: 1,032 U.S. adults ages 18+ were surveyed in February of this year in a study funded by the Human Rights Campaign. The respondent population was weighted to reflect the broader U.S. population based on age, gender, education, race/ethnicity, region, party ID, and employment status. The findings included that 85% of U.S. adults support equal rights for transgender people and 88% of U.S. adults support equal access to healthcare for trans people. That's not a fringe position — that's the vast majority of your neighbors, coworkers, and community members.
The same study found something even more meaningful to us: people who have regular, ongoing relationships with trans people are significantly more likely to strongly support trans equality — about 15 percentage points more likely. Knowing someone changes things. That's one of so many reasons why visibility matters. It's part of why spaces like Catalyst matter.
We exist because "be safe, be seen, be celebrated" isn't just a tagline — it's a commitment. We know that for many trans people, a gym can feel like one of the least safe places to exist. We're here to change that. This space was built with you in mind, and you belong here exactly as you are — whatever your visibility looks like today.
To our trans and gender-expansive community members: we see you, we treasure you, and we're honored to share space with you. To those who are not out, not ready, or navigating what visibility means for them right now: you belong here, too.
To our cis community members: today is a good day to reflect on how showing up consistently for the trans people in your life is one of the most powerful things you can do. Not just today. Every day.
Now we want to hear from you.! Drop a comment and tell us: how are you celebrating or honoring trans people in your life today?
Whether you're sharing a resource, uplifting a trans-owned business, wearing your support on your sleeve, or simply telling a trans person in your life that you see them — it all matters. Let's fill this comment section with love and action.
