A little pause for the middle of the week:

What do you need more of today?

• rest
• clarity
• connection
• quiet
• motivation
• softness

Some of what we carry was never really ours to hold.

Other people’s reactions.
Other people’s projections.
Old roles we learned to survive inside of.
Expectations that ask us to betray ourselves in order to belong.

Just because something feels familiar does not mean it is yours to keep carrying forever.

Sometimes healing looks like noticing what has been weighing you down…
and gently setting some of it down.

Sometimes the work is not adding more. It’s unlearning what never belonged.

If you leave conversations feeling drained, this might be why.

You replay everything you said.
You wonder if you said too much.
You start second-guessing yourself.

And somehow… you leave feeling exhausted.

It’s easy to assume:
“I’m overthinking.”

But sometimes, it’s not that.

Not all conversations feel emotionally safe — and your nervous system picks up on that, even when it’s subtle.

So you try to fix it by explaining more.
Clarifying more.
Trying harder to be understood.

And you end up even more drained.

At some point, it’s not about explaining better.

It’s about noticing what doesn’t feel right.

You’re allowed to trust that feeling.

We wrote more about this (and why it happens) on the blog.

Have you heard of the “sixth stage of grief”?

Many people are familiar with the five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance.

But grief rarely moves in a straight line.

Some therapists and researchers have begun describing a possible sixth stage, Emotional Alchemy.

Emotional alchemy doesn’t mean the pain of loss disappears. Instead, it reflects the way grief can gradually transform us over time.

For some people, this might look like:

• finding deeper meaning in life
• feeling more compassion for others who are hurting
• re-evaluating what truly matters
• honoring the love that remains after loss

Grief and growth can exist at the same time.

We wrote a short article exploring this idea and how people sometimes integrate loss in ways that deepen perspective and connection.

If you’re navigating grief, know that you don’t have to do it alone.

What Is Reiki? Energy Healing

Curious about Reiki but not sure what it actually is?

Reiki is a gentle energy healing practice that helps the body shift into a state of relaxation and balance. Many people experience deep calm, reduced stress, and a greater sense of emotional grounding after a session.

At GR Therapy Collective in Grand Rapids, Reiki is one of several holistic services offered to support nervous system regulation, emotional healing, and overall wellness.

If you've ever wondered how Reiki works or what a session is like, we put together a short guide explaining it.

Many people think stress is just mental.

But often it's your nervous system asking for support.

When our bodies experience too much stress, they often move into two protective states:

⚡ Overstimulated
Restless, tense, anxious, wired.

🌧 Shut down
Exhausted, numb, disconnected, foggy.

Neither means something is wrong with you.
They are simply ways your nervous system tries to protect you.

The good news is that regulation can be supported through many approaches, including:

• trauma-informed therapy
• somatic healing practices
• massage therapy
• Reiki / energy work

At GR Therapy Collective in Grand Rapids, our practitioners offer a variety of ways to support nervous system healing and mind-body balance.

Curious to hear from you:

Do you tend to feel more overstimulated or shut down when you're stressed?

Drop a ⚡ or 🌧 in the comments.

Most people know what a “bad therapist” looks like.

But not enough people know what good therapy actually feels like.

It’s not someone fixing you.
It’s not someone giving constant advice.
It’s not someone pushing you to move faster than your nervous system can handle.

Good therapy feels steady.
Grounded.
Honest.
Safe enough to be real.

Over time, you don’t feel more attached to your therapist,
you feel more connected to yourself.

If you’ve been in therapy before…
what felt like a green flag to you?

👇 I’d love to hear.
