For some patients, the onset of viral season coincides with the tail end of a poorly controlled allergy season, which can be a recipe for the development of sinusitis. Sinusitis is divided into two categories based on the length of time a patient has been experiencing symptoms:
🤧Acute Sinusitis: symptoms such as nasal congestion and discharge, post nasal drainage, headache, cough and facial pain. Symptoms must have been present for less than 4 weeks. Acute sinusitis can be differentiated from a viral infection, or cold, when lasting longer that seven to ten days.
🤧Chronic Sinusitis: symptoms are somewhat similar to acute sinusitis patients, but thick post-nasal drainage and significant facial pressure are common. Usually symptoms will have been present for at least eight weeks. At times, the patient may even feel that his or her symptoms will start to resolve, only to have them return in a few days.

It can sometimes feel daunting to have a condition that requires daily medication, but asthma is one of these conditions that demands control. The consequences of uncontrolled asthma can include serious illness and even death.
Consistent and proper use of asthma controller medications are a patient's best defense against missed work and school days due to illness and asthma flares.
Contact our office if you require assistance with managing your asthma.

Despite the recent claims of being overprescribed, only 35% of asthma patients use lifesaving controller meds, putting them at risk.

We have mixed feeling around here about National Cat Day!
Whether you love them or hate them, many patients struggle with managing exposure to cats both at home and when visiting others.
Here are a few tips:
🐱 Whenever possible, remove the cat from the home; if this is not possible, allow the cat to be outdoors some or all of the time
🐱 If the cat must be indoors, limit it to a single area of the home
🐱 Bathe your cat!
🐱 Cat allergen adheres to soft furnishings. Limit rugs/carpets, stuffed animals and upholstered furniture when possible

AAWM's OIT program has helped desensitize many, many patients with food allergies, allowing them to live a life free from the fear of food-related allergic reactions.
Families, friends and neighbors of food allergic patients tend to be more aware of the possibility that kids in their community may be relying on strict avoidance to prevent reaction. This is what makes the Teal Pumpkin Project appealing.
Visit the FARE website for more information on becoming involved in helping to keep kids safe this Halloween

It is not uncommon for patients to struggle with allergy symptoms from the time spring emerges to the time the leaves fall, and this is a result of consecutive and often overlapping allergen seasons.

This time of year can be especially difficult, as we enter viral season. Some tips for symptom control are included in the attached article, but allergy and non-allergy sufferers alike should also be practicing good hand washing techniques and receiving vaccines.

Some people suffer from seasonal allergies much of the year – with perhaps a break in the winter if they live in a cold climate.
