What can you do for Earth Day?

Ten simple choices for a healthier planet.

We feel it pertinent to share this post from Mental Health America:

On March 31st, 2026, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled to strike down a Colorado law that banned conversion therapy for minors. By lifting the ban, this ruling will allow licensed therapists to attempt to change the sexual orientation or gender identity of young people in their practice, despite clear evidence that doing so causes significant harm to LGBTQ+ youth.

Read our full statement: https://mhanational.org/news/mental-health-america-is-deeply-concerned-by-the-supreme-courts-decision-to-lift-ban-on-conversion-therapy/

Mental Health America is deeply concerned by this decision, and interim president and CEO, Pierluigi Mancini, Ph.D., issued the following statement:

"Bans on conversion therapy are a crucial prevention strategy, ensuring that those entrusted to provide mental health care do not perpetuate harm. The Court’s decision puts young people at risk, allowing the continuation of a practice that evidence shows is damaging to mental health and well-being.

Being LGBTQ+ is not a mental health condition. Attempting to change someone’s gender identity or sexual orientation — and labeling that as a form of ‘therapy’ — is unethical, inaccurate, and inconsistent with evidence-based care. Mental Health America continues to stand with LGBTQ+ youth and families in calling for protection from dangerous and discredited practices. Together, we will continue to fight for access to safe, affirming care for all.”

Conversion therapy is linked to increased rates of su***de attempts, anxiety, and depression. Leading medical and mental health organizations condemn conversion therapy as harmful and unethical.

It's hard to feel mentally healthy when you feel unsafe, and many LGBTQ+ people face mental health challenges because of social attitudes about their identities. For more information and resources about LGBTQ+ mental health, visit mhanational.org/lgbtq.

So many of us have been fascinated with this mission and this group of humans. Jeremy Hansen speaks the truth that we are hungry for the “better angels” of our nature. We, too, all have love, competency and courage. This time is an opportunity to remember, as astronaut Christina Koch said, Earth is a crew.

"The premise of the case the Court ruled on was one of free speech instead of professional conduct. However, psychotherapy is a regulated medical treatment, not a form of unregulated conversation. Despite this, the ruling centered on the viewpoint of the complainant and struck down the Colorado law as a restriction on expression. ACA maintains that conversion therapy bans regulate professional conduct, not speech. Such laws ensure that counseling practices are evidence-based, ethical and aligned with accepted standards of care."

This is my professional organization's position, and mine personally, on the recent Supreme Court ruling about conversion therapy.

The U.S. Supreme Court overturned Colorado’s ban on conversion therapy related to a lawsuit brought by counselor Kaley Chiles (Chiles v. Salazar). This ruling is a devastating blow to LGBTQ+ rights and to professionally trained counselors nationwide.

Celebrating the lives and courage of all the trans and nonbinary people I know.

Today is Transgender Day of Visibility — a celebration of transgender people around the globe and the courage it takes to live openly and authentically, while also raising awareness around the discrimination trans people still face.

One way you can show support for those who are transgender is by accurately using a person’s pronouns. Pronouns — such as he, she and they — are deeply personal and are integral to how people express themselves.

Here's an invitation from my friend and colleague Sam Russo:

Call for Young Creators: Design the Logo for Stranizze d’Amuri

We invite trans, gender-diverse and q***r young people to create the logo for a new project rooted in Sicily.

In Sicilian, Stranizze d’Amuri means “the strange things of love”—a love that is free, unexpected, and beyond boundaries, embracing all bodies, creatures, and ways of being on Earth.

This project sits at the meeting point of q***r experience, impermanence, and regenerative kinship. It is grounded in a simple belief:

Our body, like the body of the Earth, is plural, fluid, and ever becoming.

The call comes from a personal place: in 2019, I (Sam) set up a counselling service for LGBTQIA+ young people. Through the stories I heard, I began questioning my own gender. Recognising that as a gift, today we are inviting young q***r creators to shape the logo of Stranizze d’Amuri.

A few prompts for the logo:
Q***r and trans ecology
Plurality and many ways of being
Earth body, q***r body
Creativity, imagination, transformation
Love beyond boxes

Your design can be a drawing, digital work, collage, or mixed media—symbolic, abstract, or narrative. Bold, soft, strange, playful—however you imagine it!

No experience needed—just let your imagination play!

Why take part?
Stranizze d’Amuri is a space in the making—where community, creativity, and care for the Earth meet.

Your work could:
represent the regeneration of an abandoned ancient olive grove in Sicily
contribute to a space rooted in q***r values and belonging
help shape the identity of a living, evolving community

A symbolic offering:
As a gesture of gratitude, we would like to offer a bottle of olive oil from Sicily, produced by hand and harvested with q***r care. The design you create will celebrate this special place and may also be used to decorate the bottles. While we are mindful of the impact of sending a bottle across the globe as thanks, we welcome applications worldwide and trust that, through a little magic, we will find a way to get the olive oil to you!

How to submit
Send your work by 30 June 2026 to:
stranizzedamuri@protonmail.com

Include:
your design (use WeTransfer if over 5MB)
your name (as you’d like it credited)
a few words about your idea (optional)

We can’t wait to see what you create—share with us what the strange things of love look like to you!

The Project
We are Gareth and Sam. Gareth (he/him), a q***r psychoanalytic psychotherapist and sexologist working with LGBTQIA+ communities on identity, shame, and transformation. Sam (they/them), a non-binary dramatherapist and clinical supervisor exploring creativity, embodiment, and the “in-between” where identity, imagination, and transformation meet.

After years in London, the pandemic and the sudden sale of the house we rented led us from “the centre” to “the margins”: a piece of land in Sicily. Among around 100 ancient olive trees, we are restoring and protecting the land while creating space for q***r, ecological, and creative practices. This place is not just land—it is a relationship. A call to care.

Together, we are creating a space where care for the self and care for the Earth are inseparable.

Each day we show up in our own unique, beautiful way.
Never judge how far you’re suppose to travel, just wake up, sit in quiet, connect to your power within, and begin walking.

Remember some days you may walk far, other times you go forward then back a few steps, and often baby steps are enough. 👣
