Josephine County Parks are home to many creatures, including the Southern Alligator Lizard.
🦎
Here are a few fun facts about our reptile friends:
* Southern Alligator Lizards have a diverse diet, including insects, spiders, and even small mammals. It’s thought that they are able to eat animals close to or greater than their own body length.
* They are excellent climbers, using their long, flexible bodies to navigate through bushes and trees. Their tail is slightly prehensile, making it possible for them to hold onto branches when climbing.
* Southern Alligator Lizards live up to 15 years and can grow up to 12 inches long.
* Just like snakes, these lizards shed their skin in a single intact piece by turning it inside out as they crawl out of it.
* They can shed their tails to escape predators and regrow them, however losing a tail is energetically costly and can even result in a missed reproductive season.
* They come in various colors, from brown to green, helping them blend into their environment.
* In the ecosystem, they play a crucial role as both predators and prey, helping control insect populations and providing food for birds and mammals.

Join RHC members in two opportunities to promote peace in our communities:

March 1st we will join the local Rotary in a simple declaration for peace, in our own being, our community, our state, our nation and our world.

Join a live, global meditation for peace, being held in Washington D.C. on Wednesday, Feb. 11th. by a small group of monks who are currently walking from Texas to D.C., to promote peace. Walk for Peace What started as a handful of people, has turned into a global movement. It's inspiring to watch their journey!

Steam rising, rain falling.
Soaking in a hot tub on a soft Pacific Northwest morning, where the sky does the talking. The steady rhythm of raindrops becomes a lullaby—washing the edges smooth, easing the nervous system, reminding the body it’s safe to slow down. Healing doesn’t always ask for effort… sometimes it just sounds like rain. 🌧️♨️

No words.

The Oregon Nurses Association is outraged, heartbroken, and profoundly disturbed by the fatal shooting of 37-year-old registered nurse Alex Jeffrey Pretti by federal agents in Minneapolis on January 24, 2026. Alex was an intensive care unit nurse and union member at the VA hospital who dedicated his life to caring for military veterans and their families. A life devoted to healing was cut short — gunned down in the streets by federal agents while speaking out.

Our deepest condolences go out to Alex’s family, his patients, his colleagues, and the people of Minneapolis as they grieve this senseless and devastating loss.

A nurse's job is to care for their patients — but they are also ethically bound to speak out in the face of injustice and human rights violations. Provision 8.2 of the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Nurses is clear: “Where there are human rights violations, nurses ought to and must stand up for those rights and demand accountability.” That is exactly what Alex was doing.
