When you find your voice, you help others find theirs.
Tracy has been part of Aspire since the beginning. With the right support, he found not only stability but purpose through creativity. The stage became his outlet.
While his journey to the stage was not an easy one, Tracy persevered with the help of a past employee and cinematographer, Josh Kennedy. Together, they made an inspiring short film to pave his path to local theater productions. Where Tracy reminded others that communication goes beyond wordsāitās in expression, movement, and connection.
Today, Tracy continues to uplift those around him, proving that meeting needs is just the beginningāthriving is the goal.

Lights, Camera, Barry š¬
Over a weekend trip in Astoria, Barry visited the Oregon Film Museum and spent time exploring exhibits that connect to his long-standing interest in theater and the performing arts.
While there, he and his housemate Jacob took part in an interactive exhibit that allowed visitors to film their own scenes. Barry chose to recreate a scene from The Goonies, which was filmed in Astoria. He enjoyed having the opportunity to make choices about the setting, equipment, and creative direction, and later shared how excited he was to show the footage to friends and family back home.

Bobbieās Trek Forward š¶āāļøāā”ļø
Bobbie has faced a tough road with her health over the past few years. On a Kroner House trip to Crater Lake, she showed her staff just how far sheās come. What began as a simple restroom stop at Rogue River Gorge turned into an unexpected adventure when Bobbie pointed out a nearby trail and confidently led the group on a short hike, sharing the waterfalls and flowers along the way.
By dayās end, Bobbie had walked 7.5 miles total, something unimaginable just a year ago. As her health improves, so does her confidence and joy. Bobbieās journey is a powerful reminder that with the right support and encouragement, people donāt just meet goalsāthey thrive.
Meeting needs is just the beginningāthriving is the goal.

Jenniferās Joy of Trying Something New š²āØ
Jennifer has always loved staying activeāwalking and hikingābut discovering new hobbies hasnāt always been easy. Having been with Aspire for over a decade, she sometimes has difficulty expressing her interests and desires. It takes patience, encouragement, and trust from staff who know her well to help her explore new experiences.
One afternoon, while staff were helping her housemate get ready for a walk, Jennifer noticed his three-wheeled bike. Curious but hesitant, she quietly said, āUh, maybeā when asked if she wanted to try. With a little encouragement, she decided to give it a chanceāand within moments, she was pedaling down the driveway, her face lit with pure joy.
That first ride gave Jennifer a taste of something new and exciting. With support, she rode up and down the driveway several times, laughing and gaining confidence with each turn. Not only did Jennifer push herself to try something new, this experience also created an opportunity to build friendship and discover common interests with her housemate. This moment is a reminder that joy often begins with one small āyes.ā When understanding and opportunity come together, individuals like Jennifer donāt just participateāthey thrive.

Mission Moment: Mark's Building Dreams and Determination šŖ
Before moving to Kroner last July, Mark had lived independently with support from our Supported Living program, but needed more help due to an upcoming surgery and an increase in daily challenges. At Kroner, he gained 24/7 staff support and access to a healthy meal plan. He lost 50 pounds before his surgery through improved nutrition and dedicated workouts. During recovery, Mark committed fully to his physical therapy, completing exercises four times daily and attending all appointments, impressing his therapists and surgeon with his determination and rapid progress.
Post-surgery, Mark has regained mobility, walking at home without a walker, and taking neighborhood walks with staff and his walker. He has resumed YMCA activities, bought clothes he couldnāt wear before, and pursued personal goals like planting and tending a garden. Looking ahead, heās excited to hike, return to the Special Olympics, and continue building dreams for the future. Mark says his life is now ā100% betterā with the support he receives.
It has been remarkable to see Mark flourish, grow his confidence, and develop a newfound love for both old and new hobbies. š„³

𤲠This Giving TuesdayāBring Joy & Dignity to Lives Like Rickās
Rick celebrated his 75th in style š
He rented a tux, rolled out a red carpet, and rode through Grants Pass in a limousine with his closest friends.
But this night was about more than a birthday ā it was about honoring a life filled with friendship, laughter, and the simple dignity of joy.
Because his needs are supported, Rick gets to celebrate life fully.
Everyone deserves that.
When necessities are met, individuals thrive. When you give, you make that possible.

Arianna Finding Her Confidence āØ
When Arianna first moved into Oregon House, she often kept to herself. The world felt intimidating, and anxiety made even small interactions difficult. But little by little, surrounded by newfound freedom and people who believed in her, Arianna began to open up.
She learned new skillsāusing the bus, budgeting for groceries, sewing, and crafting beautiful resin art. She began volunteering at Asante Hospital, where one day she noticed an elderly woman sitting alone. Arianna gently asked if she needed help, arranged a ride home, and waited until she was safely on her way.
That moment reflected how far Arianna had comeāfrom being unsure of her place in the world to being a confident, compassionate helper in her community. Today, Arianna proudly expresses her identity, creates her own art, and continues writing her first book. With acceptance and support, sheās found not only her voice, but her freedom to use it.
Our work is about people like Arianna, and walking alongside them with their ever-evolving journey. But creating real change takes numerous resourcesāresources that are increasingly being restricted. Your support ensures that individuals like Arianna can continue building confidence, independence, and a future they choose.

Forty four years ago before the start of Southern Oregon Aspire, children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities had limited options to seek care and support. If a parent wanted their child to live outside of their home the only option was to send them to a state institution. Majority of these institutions were structured to give basic needs to their patients; food, a bed, clothes. They did not truly let the individuals make their own choices or thrive in their life. In some severe cases, these institutions would force sterilization on the patients, lock them in their room for hours when they were experiencing a behavior and restrain them with a straight jacket as a punishment. For these reasons and many more, a group of parents decided they wanted more for their children. So they began, the non-profit organizations of SPARC and Stepping Stone, what we now call today as Southern Oregon Aspire.
With the core values we still hold today, it was decided by these parents that the non-profit organization would be person-centered focused. Allowing the individuals to make their own choices in their every day life. SO Aspire supports 200 individuals in Josephine and Jackson Counties by providing residential housing, community employment placement, vocational job training, behavioral in-home supports and community inclusion services.
Our Mission is, āInspiring Unlimited Opportunities for People to Create the Life They Choose.ā
