The Florida Surgeon General, Dr. Joseph Ladapo is recommending that males between the ages of 18-39 not receive the messenger RNA vaccines promoted for COVID. After analyzing studies from England, Scandinavia and the US they noted the increased risk for cardiac inflammation at higher rates than in unvaccinated men. "It doesn't make any sense. And obviously, should not be giving mRNA Covid-19 vaccines to young men at this point in the pandemic."
The CDC is continuing to recommend the vaccines at this time despite the increase risk of pericarditis and myocarditis seen in this age group of men.

The practice of John S Ferris MD and James Fojt DO are pleased to announce their partnership with Intracare Health, a division of DFW Healthcare. Intracare will be the managing company of the practice, handling all of the non-medical portions of the practice. The physicians will continue to provide all medical services and clinical care. We have worked with the parent company of Intracare, Premiere Health for the past 8 years and have determined that this new partnership will be of great benefit for our patients and allow us to provide improved, less costly care.

Effective Nov 1, 2022, we will be Medicare-accepting providers as well as physicians who participate in various Medicare Advantage Programs.
As you may know, the period of Oct. 15 - Dec. 7 each year is known as an enrollment period for medicare during which times patients may opt to change their medicare coverage to or from Medicare part B with or without the purchase of a supplemental B plan and a drug coverage part D plan, or choose a Medicare Advantage plan offered by various insurance companies.

With Medicare Advantage patients often save $2000 - $3000 / year as these programs offer the same or better benefits as traditional Medicare without the need for expensive supplemental part B plans and part D (pharmacy) plans.
Every insurer's Advantage plan is slightly different and it can be confusing to know what is best for you.

Intracare at Grapevine Internal Medicine Centre will be holding informational meetings in association with Connie Health (independent insurance brokers) on Friday Oct. 21 and Friday October 28 from 10:00 am to 11:30. Representatives of Connie Health will be there to discuss all insurance options and explain the pros and cons of options for regular medicare supplement programs and Medicare Advantage programs available to residents of the DFW area. This is an informational meeting without obligation or cost. Agents will be able to enroll patients in a program if the patient finds any of the plans to better serve their needs. Changes in insurance coverage made during this enrollment period would be effective Jan. 1, 2023

Attendees do not need to be patients of Grapevine Internal Medicine Centre to attend the informational meeting. Anyone on Medicare and those who will be medicare eligible in 2023 would benefit and are encouraged to attend. We look forward to seeing you there.

To all of my patients over the years (38) but especially to those who have been asking my wonderful nurses, Kelly and Amy, I thought I'd give you a brief update on my condition.
I had a third surgery within the last year in April of this year. Dr. Matin, an excellent surgeon, advised me that this one would hurt in recovery much more than the first surgery/recovery did. He was absolutely correct. Then I developed postoperative abdominal wall neuropathy which, as any of you have had shingles will attest, is about as much pain as you can take. Any touch, just a shirt or sheet touching your skin, evokes a burning pain that is difficult to explain but very unpleasant to experience.
It looks like another surgery is on the horizon likely in 6 - 12 months but Dr. Matin assures me "this one won't be as bad!"
While I'm unavailable I hope you will find Dr. Fojt to be a very capable internal medicine physician who is filling my shoes with aplomb. He came to Grapevine Internal Medicine Centre highly-recommended and very well trained in Internal Medicine. Kelly and Amy are available to assist you and help you navigate the health care maze created by the insurance companies and medicare.
I miss seeing you all and wish you the best of health in these difficult times!

I would like to announce the formation of The Bubbles Project, a non-profit foundation whose goal is to provide support and assistance to families who experience a member, especially a child or young adult, that suffers from a chronic painful or medical condition. All too often families feel isolated and misunderstood by the medical profession and others during times of devastating illness. This foundation is a support group, not a medical information or medical recommendation site.

This foundation is named after my niece who passed away 4 years ago as a result of chronic illness from age 16 until 21 after seeking help from over 100 doctors and various specialists nationwide. By now, I'm sure most of you know that I have been out of the office on a medical leave of absence after having an emergency surgery in May of 2020. I had multiple complications thereafter which were not life-threatening but rather bothersone. Following that procedure I had to undergo a second surgery in late June and it appears another surgical procedure will be needed in the next couple of months. I thank all of you who have expressed concern and good wishes and have wondered about my return to practice.

In the meantime, the staff at Grapevine Internal Medicine Centre and especially Kelly Lopes and Amy Varvil have gone to great lengths to be sure all of your health care needs are met on a timely basis. Dr. James Fojt has graciously stepped in and is providing care in my absence. I encourage you to make appointments to see him for your annual exams as well as follow-up care and acute needs. As a board-certified Internal Medicine physician he is highly capable and can provide the same quality care you have come to expect at Grapevine Internal Medicine Centre. Drs. Trotter, Page and Gordon have also stepped up and assisted my patients prior to the arrival of Dr. Fojt.

At this time I can not predict when I may be cleared for a return to medical practice, but know that behind the scenes I am still directly involved, ensuring that you receive the highest quality Internal Medicine Care possible.

The current estimates regarding the Coronavirus illness peak for Texas is April 19th. We are far from "over the hump" right now and if they are correct the worse for Texas is yet to come. It is best to heed their recommendations regarding hygiene measures, social distancing, and mask wearing. Certainly there is no certainty, but we need to be prepared. If you start having symptoms such as Fever, Body aches, Headaches, Sore Throat and/or dry cough call our office (817-481-8661) and schedule a Telemedicine visit with one of our doctors for a consultation and advise. You may be asked to log onto our telemedicine port; the link for each doctor is available at www.DrJohnFerris.com.
If you have associated shortness of breath you should call the ER closest to you and tell them you are coming in to be evaluated. They will likely instruct you to not go in when you arrive but to call them again to announce your arrival and location so they can come to you with protective equiptment before taking you into the ER. Of course if your symptoms are extreme, call 911 for ambulance transport to the ER.
