Care Access is a medical research clinic with locations worldwide who are offering free screening to assess patient's risk for developing heart disease and Alzheimer's Dementia. This screening includes blood testing for lipid profile including the Lp(a) fraction which is not generally included in routine blood panel testing but is an important factor in vascular disease development. Other lab tests include evaluation of liver and kidney function as well as a marker for inflammation, the highly selective C-reactive protein. In additions an evaluation of the phosphorylated Tau protein may be done which is a marker thought to be a primary factor in t he development of dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Elevation of this protein is associated with increase in dementia risk but is not 100% predictive. Likewise, lack of elevation is not a guarantee that dementia will not occur later in life. It can be helpful to know this value as newer medications are available and more are coming through research that will allow earlier intervention in order to delay the progressive memory loss and disability associated with this dreaded disease. Screened persons with significant risk factors may be offered to participate in further paid medial studies in order to clarify how these markers and subsequent treatments can modify medical risks. Care Access will provide participants who meet their criteria for screening a $45.00 remuneration for their participation. Locally, the closes center is in Irving on N McArthur just about a mile north of hisar 114 at the Medical Cities Hospital / clinic facility (6750 N McArthur suite 310). The testing involves a simple blood draw and takes no more than 15 minutes. I have recently been named as the regional Medical Director of a multi-center nationwide research study being coordinated by the Cleveland Clinic. This study is to assess the effect of cutaneous Vagus Nerve Stimulation placed around the ear on Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy. There is very little discomfort noted during placement of the leads.
A preliminary study showed a response of greater than 70% improvement in the pain / discomfort of peripheral neuropathy. Additional benefit was marked improvement in blood sugar control with reduction in diabetic medications and some weight loss.
Too often the medications prescribed for this condition such as Lyrica, Neurontin, Elavil, etc have side effects and are of little benefit. This non-pharmacy alternative so far looks quite promising.
Patients with Diabetic Nerve damage have seen improvement of up to 1 1/2 years duration.
We are recruiting patients for this study which in many cases is covered by health insurance policies. During the study, the patient's physician will be informed of the patient's progress.

It is with a deep sadness that I must notify you that Sherry McLean passed away after a relatively brief illness. As many here will recall, she was the one responsible for establishing John S. Ferris MD's. medical practice which later became Grapevine Internal Medicine Centre. Under her direction, the practice began on Main Street in Grapevine, Texas in Dec. 1982. Later, Sherry was a driving force in moving the practice to the Baylor Grapevine Medical building and then in 1989 she directed the construction of and relocation of the practice to it's current location at 1604 Lancaster Dr. Grapevine, Tx. Not only did she manage the practice, but she deftly dealt with the architects and construction company. Sometimes, we both felt like we had no clue what we were doing but her dedication, drive and assurance was a steadying force. She was initially the office manager, receptionist, front office staff, nurse, and part-time janitor. She wore all hats with aplomb. Luckily she hired her best friend Colleen Evers as my nurse and the three of us persevered through our early days of practice. I have to smile a bit despite the grief, knowing that she and Colleen are together again! Sherry will surely be missed by her family and all who knew her !

It's that time of year again. October 15 to Dec. 7 is open enrollment time for Medicare Patients. During this time medicare-covered patients can change their insurance plans without penalty. Choices include traditional Medicare Coverage (Medicare A [hospital care] and B [physician care] with or without Medicare D (prescription coverage); and Medicare Advantage programs offered by multiple companies.
I strongly recommend patients consider the Advantage programs such as offered by Aetna, Humana, Blue Cross and United. Each program has a few different benefits. The PPO options of the Advantage Programs generally are less restrictive and allow for patients to see any physician that accepts Medicare patients. These plans are offered without an additional premium above the required Medicare Part B monthly payment as opposed to traditional Medicare-covered plans which would require the purchase of a Supplemental plan with premiums generally from $100 - $200/month plus a Medicare part D plan for medication coverage.

Drs. Ganpath and Gordon accept assignment for traditional Medicare and most Medicare Advantage plans.

If you do not make an election between Oct. 15th - Dec. 7th, your insurance coverage for 2025 will remain the same as it is in 2024.

If you or anyone you know are looking for medical care in the North Texas area, look no further than Grapevine's Intracare Internal Medicine Center. Our office accepts most insurance plans and accepts both traditional Medicare plans and most of the Medicare Advantage Plans that have become popular for seniors.
Dr. Ganpath is a board-certified Internal Medicine Specialist who provides care to patients from 18 - Senior aged. She is a certified Medicare provider and can now accept Cigna Medicare Advantage patients. Blue Cross / Blue Shield , United Health, and many other Medicare Advantage plan patients will be welcomed soon as those plans work through their cumbersome credentialing process. We anticipate this process to be completed in just a few weeks.

Jorge Candioti has joined the practice as a physician assistant. He has vast experience as the former director of the Intensive care Unite of the largest hospital in Lima, Peru for a five year period. He has specialty training in Infectious Disease from an Antwerp, Belgium Medical Facility.

Introducing Dr. Shopana Ganpath, M. D.
We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Ganpath as the newest Internal Medicine Physician to join Intracare Health's Grapevine Internal Medicine practice.
Dr. Ganpath joins our practice, having been in private practice most recently in Frisco and Van Alstyne, Texas. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, having completed her training at the Wayne State University Hospital system in Detroit, Michigan. She is a member of the American College of Physicians and American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Care. Her focus is on primary adult care and preventative health issues. As an internist, her practice encompasses the overall care of patients from 13 years of age to advanced adulthood.

She has received extensive training in Aesthetic Medicine and will continue to offer such aesthetic procedures as Neuromodulators (Botox, Xeomin, Daxxify) for facial wrinkling; filler therapies; laser therapies for skin resurfacing, pigment reduction, rosacea and hair removal. Hair restorative treatments utilizing medical therapies, PRP and Exosomes are additional treatments she offers. Microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (Vampire Facial) to improve facial skin smoothness and appearance is another treatment offered at our clinic.

Merry Christmas Y'all!

Changes are coming to Intracare Healtcare's Grapevine Internal Medicine Practice in the New Year.

We are extremely pleased to welcome Dr. Neesha Settipalle to the practice of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Settipalle will begin seeing patients in early January 2024, assuming the position previously held by Dr. James Fojt. Dr. Fojt has made the decision to return to the acute care practice of in-hospital care after focusing on clinic work here at Intracare's Grapevine office for the past 1 1/2 year. We wish him the best and thank him for his expert care to our patients.

We are confident that Dr. Settipalle will continue the tradition established over the last 42 years, beginning with the establishment of Grapevine Internal Medicine by Dr. John Ferris, of providing personalized Internal Medicine professional care.

The practices of John S Ferris MD, James Fojt DO, and Martyn Gordon MD have entered a partnership with Intracare Healthcare, a company that provides managerial services for health care facilities. The office management responsibilities are now controlled by Intracare while the medical care and patient care decisions are solely under the direction of the physicians.

This partnership has allowed us to improve efficiency, enjoy a more equitable bargaining with insurance companies, and enhance the HR relationship with employees. During this time of transition we appreciate your patience as converting to the new systems of computerization, electronic medical records, and enhance the patient communication abilities with our patient portal. We will also see a more efficient interface with pharmacies with electronic prescribing. It is our hope that dealing with patients insurance companies electronically will speed-up the processes the insurance companies have enacted to obtain authorization for their coverage of needed tests and procedures.

During this transition we all may have times of frustration but it is our sincere hope that once our systems are fully implemented and functional our patients and staff will see the improvements in our ability to proved the care we have provided since 1982.

If you encounter any difficulties please direct your concerns to our office management - Jan will continue to serve as office manager, with the executives of Intracare ultimately responsible to implement the overall transition.

One additional benefit of this conversion to Intracare's management has been our ability to provide more cost-effective care to our elderly patients as we now are Medicare providers, accepting assignment of insurance benefits for traditional Medicare / Supplemental insured patients,(such that these patients no longer pay for services at the time of service as we now bill Medicare directly) and are now are credentialed to provide care for most of the Medicare Advantage Insured patients.

Today, November 1 2022 marks the first day that our new operating managing partnership with Intracare officially begins. As Intracare begins non-clinical management of the practices of Drs. Ferris, Dr. Fojt and Dr. Gordon we anticipate some transition issues and ask patients to understand that the implementation of their policies may not be as smooth as we'd like, however the end result will be of great benefit to our ability to provide care. This will include transition to the electronic medical records, patient portals for communicating, acceptance of medicare assignment as well as accepting Medicare Advantage patients as of Jan 1 2023. (Pending credentialing by the insurers)
We are excited to be able to improve the services we can deliver and would like to be made aware of the patient's experiences throughout the transition and afterward.
I began this practice in Grapevine 40 years ago December and with Intracare's management and the doctor's medical decision making we anticipate a better experience for all our patients.
