A Fresh Look, the Same Commitment to Care

Thanks to the generosity of the Smith Tieken Foundation, our office recently received a much-needed refresh, creating a more welcoming and calming environment for the thousands of children, teens, and families who walk through our doors each year. We’re also grateful to Total Home Improvement (with the services of Lake County Flooring and Precision Painting) for their excellent work and partial in-kind donation, helping bring this vision to life. A special shout-out to our volunteer furniture builders from Old National Bank: Brad Knebel, Desrie Colson, and Maria Morales, who rolled up their sleeves and assembled 12 couches, 24 chairs, and countless end tables to bring this project to life.

Because of this incredible community support, our refreshed space reflects the same care and dignity we strive to provide every day.

A few weeks ago, at Susanna Farms, we gathered for Positive Pumpkins, where each student was invited to write something positive about their fellow students on their chosen pumpkins. Reading these uplifting notes made everyone feel appreciated and encouraged. One student shared, “I enjoy coming. It makes me feel better than being sad or upset,” capturing the spirit of the experience. Even though many of them didn’t know each other well, their relationships have grown stronger, showing increased connection, comfort, and confidence within the group over the past few months.

WELCOME TO CYN COUNSELING CENTER!

CYN Counseling Center is a Lake County, Illinois nonprofit community counseling agency. For over 40 years our mission has remained to preserve and strengthen families while protecting children from abusive or high-risk situations. CYN works to transform the lives of our most vulnerable and at-risk youth, families and adults and collaborate with area organizations to address complicated issues and create lasting change.

OUR VISION: A society where mental health issues and concerns are not stigmatized, where all citizens have access to quality mental health services when needed, where all people are treated with dignity and respect, and where everyone can get the support, tools, and resources they need to grow and thrive.

CYN began as a case coordination agency for the most complex cases of child abuse. Today, we are a comprehensive mental health center, accessible to all. By providing counseling, psychotherapy, assessment, specialized treatment, prevention programs, case work services, and community education, our goals are to:
