Lylas has started taking requests! Mak mentioned that his favorite song is "How Great Thou Art" so we found it in Lylas' music book and the moment just blossomed from there. Mak has a beautiful singing voice, shared at church and with family and friends alike for many, many years. By the end of the song, everyone who had started to trickle in for lunch had joined in singing along as well. What a moment of worship ❤️ "Where two or more are gathered in my name, there I will be with them."

Being under the weather on your birthday should never be allowed. Strict orders came through to the kitchen that Carol wanted NO SINGING! (Grumpy, eh?) We would be too if we had to cancel all our plans... But... We knew that what Carol really needed was for us to sing even louder. It was an immediate ornery smile when we all walked through the door for our Happy Birthday serenade, as we proved to Carol that we will always show up when our residents truly need us most! That cinammon roll must've chased away the germs because we are super happy to report that Carol quickly bounced back to her normal self! Happiest of 86th Birthdays, Carol! You are so special to us all!

Rise and Shine! We enjoyed the joyful noise of our dining room this morning as we hosted our Annual Family Breakfast! There is nothing better than seeing our families come together at our Home away from Home 🥰 Thank you to all of those who joined us this morning for good food, fellowship and even making some new friends! A Happy, Happy 85th Birthday also goes out to Ms. Mary today! We are so blessed to have you as part of our River Bend family and love that infectious, genuine (and a little ornery) smile!

We were too busy enjoying so I only caught a short glimpse, but we have some new musical talent at River Bend! Before Lylas moved in, family said they thought it had been at least 10 years since she sat at a piano to play. They weren't sure she could even read music any longer... Boy, has she proved us all wrong! That very first day and so many days since, she has sat down on her own accord in the afternoons and evenings and filled our common space with beautiful old hymns or whatever comes to mind in the moment! So grateful that she has given our well-loved, baby grand a new life and found even more purpose for herself!

Today is Mak's special day! We have truly enjoyed getting to know Mak these last few months. He has a beautiful heart and a singing voice to match! After his birthday song, he stood and shared how grateful he has been for the support of the staff and the other residents (his friends) since the recent passing of his wife. It touched all of our hearts and was a great reminder that we are all one big family ❤️ Happy 90th Birthday, Mak! We are blessed to celebrate life with you!

Wilma isn't quite yet in the "90's Club" but 89 years is still a big reason to celebrate! She was late to her own party, in true Wilma fashion, but the staff choir still did her proud with her Happy Birthday song and saved her a BIG piece of her requested Chocolate Cream Pie! Yum! Happiest of 89th Birthdays, Wilma! We are so glad to have you as part of our River Bend family!

Recently celebrating 11 years at River Bend, Diana serves as our Dietary Manager and mentors her team with warmth, compassion and respect. She takes pride in her old-fashioned cooking and looks for ways to make each meal special – honoring residents’ preferences and the life stories behind them.

Diana sets the standard for Respect and what it means to live out our RISING values each day. 👏

If you haven't had the opportunity to meet our new Health and Wellness Director, you're missing out!! Lori Patterson joined our River Bend team last month and she has already added so much positivity to our days! Lori has settled right in amongst the residents, quickly earning their confidence and trust. She has jumped into the day to day activity alongside her coworkers without hesitation and has shown up as a support system in all the ways that matter most! She has warmed her way into our hearts with her fun, positive personality and literally brings with her the best attitude AND the best toys 😂 Who knew healthcare could benefit from fun fidget pens and desk spinners. We have enjoyed her quirky little additives, earning Positive Pickles when we're down or drawing from the Oracle of Attitudes when we need a good laugh. It has been an amazing first month and we sure can't wait to see what the future holds! Make sure you welcome her next time you drop by! ☺️

You can take away our sunshine, but you can't steal our smiles! Staying warm inside and celebrating sweet Pat today! She's quite the lady, spending her younger years as a foreign language teacher! The knowledge she spent her life sharing with others is such a gift, with a beautiful spirit to go along with it! Happy 93rd Birthday, Pat!!

This beautiful, ornery woman celebrated 95 fantastic years yesterday! Theda is such a special character, always making us laugh and telling it just like she sees it, no sugar coating! We have been lucky enough to be part of her last 10 trips around the sun and hope she knows how much we look forward to her smile and her jokes each day! Happy 95th Birthday, Theda!! There is just nobody quite like you ❤️
