River Bend is home to 8 Veterans whom we had the privilege of recognizing today -- Army Vets - Ron Schawe, Buzz Banks, Neil Frieb, Eugene Bahr, Geoffrey Tammen and Medic - Lois Marshall; Marine Corps Vet - Don Halbower; Navy Vet - Don Davis. Thank you, gentlemen and Lois, for your selfless service to our country ❤️ We know you didn't do it for the recognition, but know that we are all so proud to know you and get to be a part of your stories. We enjoyed our little lunch ceremony and a visit from the American Legion Riders today. Thank you to our beautiful PTA, Chelsy, for leading us in our patriotic songs!

We were proud to be asked again to host this year's Gentiva Hospice Memorial for our area, led by Chaplain Jeff Owen. This service allowed many community family members to come together to celebrate the lives of loved ones lost in the past year who were blessed to have Gentiva staff support alongside them through this difficult journey. Today we remembered the residents we have guided "home" in 2025 - Janice Schmidt, Imogene Christiansen, Theresa Dietz, Dennie DeWitt, Jeanne Gotsche, Joelene Bryant and Veramae Henre. Always in our hearts 💕

Celebrated this Queen in every way that she deserves on her "real" birthday last week! Halloween ice cream cake to celebrate Gerry's birthday has been a tradition for 9 years now and the big reveal is always the best part when we see her face light up! Our local Dairy Queen always delivers the best decorated cakes!! This gal sure is so special to us and I think she knows it! Happy 91st Birthday, Gerry! ❤️

Starting off our Month of Thankfulness with a Halloween Party memory - oh, the laughs we laughed and there is no greater sound to be thankful for! We had the BEST time with the viral "cheeseball toss." We knew it was going to be interesting to convince these beautiful ladies to cover up their hair and let us lather them up with shaving cream but not one of them shied away! We broke alot of rules in this 15 minutes and we're still looking to borrow a puppy to clean up our mess, but this is 100% proof that you are never too old to let go and have A LOT of fun!

Ron's favorite part was eating all the cheeseballs that Gloria didn't stick to his head 😂

We can't let the day slip by without a special Happy Birthday shout out to someone who is part of our River Bend family, even if not officially -- She is OURS, just ask us! Our Hospice Aide, Ariel, is absolutely second to none. If you have been blessed to get to know Ariel while you're loved one has recieved hospice with us, past or present, you know just how truly lucky we are to have her around. She helps us care for our residents in their most vulnerable time in life and she does it with compassion, love, smiles, a gentle heart and a lot a side of ornery! She is the best at bringing joy to everyone she comes across, she can talk anybody into just about anything, (showers can be a tough sell sometimes!) And she takes pride in making sure she provides top notch care with every minute she spends with our people, whether it be telling stories, a nice shave or even a fancy manicure. Ariel is known to bring in special treats when she makes her rounds, albeit a special Starbucks coffee or a yummy donut, and she expects absolutely nothing in return. Many days, she arrives at River Bend before the sun rises to make sure she is providing that person-centered care on a schedule that fits our residents. She doesn't limit herself to just our hospice residents either, but rather you will often find her getting to know a majority of our residents, allowing her to build those relationships long before they may even need her care. We could go on and on, as you can see, but we'll just wrap it up and say - Happy Birthday, Ariel! You are truly irreplaceable to us and we sure hope we never have to worry about that!

Ms. Gerry is our longest term resident here at River Bend, going on almost 9 years!! We have celebrated many birthdays with her during this time, but this year, with the help of her family, friends and our partners in care, Gentiva Hospice, we were able to make this year so memorable. Last Friday, we busted Gerry out for a few hours and headed over to her old stomping grounds in Hoisington. We walked into the Tap Room to so many cheers, much love from friends and family and, of course, a cold beer or two! Gerry was smiling from ear to ear the whole time we were there! You see, Gerry served patrons of the Tap Room for 25 years before her health declined. You better believe she knew everyone, saw everything, and when she wasn't joining the shenanigans, she kept everything in line! It was a "homecoming" almost 10 years in the making, and it surely touched our hearts! Happy Surprise Birthday Party Day, Gerry! You are so loved!

Happy Birthday to Gene, today!! 94 years old never looked so good! We celebrated with the dessert favorite, of course - Some Homemade Angel Food Cake with Strawberries! We hope you had the best day, Gene!

We then spent the afternoon celebrating National Beer Day with some Coors Light and even some Strawberry Margeritas for those who prefer a sweeter palette! These were sure special treats we dont partake in often!
