Skip perfect, choose durable.

Thats what I train for. Not a picture perfect plan to look like a picture perfect body. Just a body that moves well, and does what I want it to do in the spur of a moment - like a handstand on the trail.

Train to stay independent.
Train to stay capable.
Train for long game.

💪 Muscle is more than movement - it’s medicine.

Skeletal muscle is the largest organ in the body by mass, and it does far more than help you lift, run, or look strong.

Some cool (and wildly underrated) facts:

🩸 Muscle is a regulator of blood sugar.
Skeletal muscle is responsible for ~80% of post-meal glucose uptake. More active muscle = better glucose control and insulin sensitivity.

🔥 Muscle is a metabolic powerhouse.
It plays a central role in metabolism, energy use, and protection against metabolic disease - both at rest and during exercise.

🧠 Muscle is an endocrine organ.
When muscles contract, they release signaling molecules called myokines that communicate with the rest of the body.

🌿 Muscle actively reduces inflammation.
Contracting muscle releases anti-inflammatory myokines like IL-6, which:
• Improve insulin sensitivity
• Help regulate immune function
• Promote fat metabolism
• Counter chronic, low-grade inflammation associated with excess fat tissue

🛡 Muscle helps regulate the immune system.
Regular exercise increases regulatory T-cells helping suppress excessive inflammatory responses.

⚖️ More muscle = better inflammatory balance.
Maintaining muscle mass helps offset chronic inflammation.

✨ Bottom line:
Strength training doesn’t just change how you look - it changes how your body functions, heals, and adapts.

Build muscle for resilience, not just aesthetics

The goal isn’t a “perfect” body… it’s a capable one.

Pain relief is an important early step - but it is not the endpoint. Long-term outcomes depend on education, progressive loading, lifestyle factors, and active participation in care. Meaningful change happens when care supports what you do outside the treatment room, too.

Effective rehabilitation focuses on restoring confidence, function, and adaptability -
not chasing ideal structure.

Sometimes social media (and even well-intentioned practitioners) fall into the trap of searching for perfect answers. The reality is that the human body isn’t designed to function like a machine. We aren’t built with identical parts, we don’t all move the same way, and we were never meant to operate at “perfect” angles.

Focus on building a body that is resilient and adaptable, not one that simply looks symmetrical.

Over the weekend, I attended a class where some truly beautiful ideas were shared. One that especially stayed with me - particularly as it relates to health and wellness - was the image of fire refining metal.

Fire is often seen as dangerous or destructive. Something that burns, hurts, or damages. But in the refining process, fire does something very different. The refiner’s fire purifies. Intense heat melts raw metal like silver or gold, allowing impurities to rise to the surface so they can be removed. What’s left is stronger, cleaner, and more valuable than before.

In the same way, our struggles in wellness, healing, and life aren’t pointless. They’re revealing what needs attention. They bring our “impurities” to the surface - habits, beliefs, patterns, or wounds - so we can address them, grow through them, and become healthier, stronger versions of ourselves.

Carry this perspective into your workouts, your injury recovery, your wellness journey, your work, and your relationships.

Hard seasons aren’t something to fear. They’re an invitation to learn. An opportunity for refinement. And, ultimately, a path toward growth.

Some food for thought.

Yes, chase goals. Build dreams. Grow… But don’t forget to live while you’re doing it.

Your life is happening now - between the good, the bad, and the unfinished.

Happiness isn’t a destination. It’s available today for the taking! All you have to do is broaden your field of vision, and take in the little moments of joy that life hides between the boring, mundane tasks.

Love yourself where you are NOW… not just when you arrive to your destination. There’s always a chance you might not make it there - don’t waste your life only worrying about the end goal.

All jokes aside… I actually do these at least once a week. Boring is what works!

If you want to grow and strengthen a muscle group, you need progressive overload.
When you bounce between 10–20 exercises in a workout, you’re spreading effort thin and missing real gains.

Choosing 4–5 movements and doing them really well will take you further than constantly chasing variety.

Which brings me to split squats 👇

Split squats are top tier.
They allow a high unilateral load capacity (you can often handle ~20% more per leg than barbell squats), they’re safe to load heavy, and they’re far more spine-friendly than most bilateral lifts.

They:
• Build serious glute strength
• Hammer the quads
• Challenge the adductors
• Improve hip stability and balance
• Expose and fix left-to-right strength imbalances

They’re simple. They’re uncomfortable. And they work. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I wish they didnt… but they do 😂

If your program doesn’t include split squats, you’re leaving strength, stability, and long-term progress on the table.

Boring. Consistent. Effective.
That’s how gains actually happen.

Rest is not a luxury… it’s the cost of doing life well. It’s a prerequisite, not a prize you earn once everything else is finished.

Somewhere along the way, we began to ignore this. Our biology is fundamentally designed to rely on rest for growth, repair, and development, yet culturally we praise pushing harder, sleeping less, and constantly doing more.

Then frustration sets in. Progress stalls. The scale doesn’t move. Muscle growth plateaus. Energy is low, motivation dips, and we wonder why our bodies aren’t responding the way we expect.

Rest isn’t passive. It’s a powerful tool. It’s during rest that adaptation happens - physically, mentally, and hormonally. Without it, even the best training, nutrition, and discipline fall short.

If there’s one true “life hack,” this is it.

Treat rest as non-negotiable. Schedule it with intention. Make it a priority.

That’s where the real progress begins!

Accountability check: back at it with core! 😁

Is it my favorite? Absolutely not.
Is today easier than the first… second… maybe even the third or fourth time? YES.

That’s the part we forget to notice.

Doing things you don’t love - but that support your health - isn’t really about checking boxes or “hitting goals.” It’s about building resilience. Learning patience. Gathering data about your body instead of judging it.

There isn’t some big finish line here. Honestly, this started with: “Wow, I really struggle with this.” So instead of avoiding it, I’m choosing to work on it. Not to be perfect… just to be less bad 😂 And sometimes? That’s the whole win.

Progress doesn’t always look impressive. Sometimes it looks like showing up again, noticing it feels a little less awful, and trusting that consistency counts even when motivation doesn’t. And really - thats the magic everyone is searching for!

Here’s to a year of doing hard things, staying present, taking care of our bodies, and slowing down enough to actually listen to them. ❤️
