What are you reading?

I admit this book took me time to read however, I think it was a good one !

The body keeps the score by Bessel van der Kolk, MD.

Not only are we healing physical injuries, but in many cases, the emotional and mental ones too. it is the emotional and mental scars that we have as a result of physical trauma that can show up in the body and one thing he talks about is the application of movement such as yoga, dance and theater that helps people resolve some of their trauma.

A very good read for anyone in any form of therapy whether it’s physical therapy massage therapy, acupuncture mental healthcare however also very important that patient seek qualified healthcare professionals who are qualified to apply different modalities mentioned in the book!

What I took away from this is despite what has happened to us, when we begin to work through the processes feel into our bodies and use different forms of physicality to help reshape how we see our relationships in the world around us can we generate healing.

“What are you Reading”: building a none anxious life by Dr. John Delony.

In Building a Non-Anxious Life, the author discusses anxiety as an alarm system. Why are we having an anxious life? Why do we feel anxiety grip at us? He states that anxiety is not the real problem rather feeling unsafe feeling disconnected being unhealthy and living as if we have no say!
By addressing six daily choices we are able to confront our anxiety. Those daily choices are:
1) Reality
2) Connection
3) Freeform
4) Mindfulness
5) Health and Healing
6) Belief

Within each of these daily choices he addresses how we can achieve such choices. For example to create more freedom, we must gain control over our finances our material world how we utilize time and boundaries we set. In belief learning to let go of control and allowing one self to be vulnerable to something larger than ourselves!

I absolutely love this book and found myself finding a sense of calm from within as I read it. We are all on a different path in life but headed in the same direction!

A clean, simple and fun read which gives actionable steps to help address one’s anxiety!

Flavor Company

When improving one’s nutrition and becoming mindful of macronutrients sufficient for body composition changes it is normal to have to modify an elimínatete excess. Unfortunately too many times we attribute weight loss with giving up good tasting food. This should not have to be the case.

Taste flavor company now has five flavors

1. Hot honey Sriracha
2. Sweet honey mustard
3. Spicy garlic Parm
4. Cherry smoked barbecue
5. Buffalo blue cheese

My personal favorites are the cherry smoked barbecue and buffalo blue cheese!

How to Attract Money by Joseph Murphy.

This is an interesting read! In this book the author discusses money as a byproduct of the mind. The way we think about ourselves in the world will influence how things including money will show up for us. If we have a positive outlook positive things happen, if we have a negative outlook negative things happen. If you believe you will never make money you probably won’t. If you believe that money is all around you it probably is.

If you believe it you’re correct!

This is a quick short read and for those who may be interested a disclaimer: the original publication date is 1955. He writes from the male perspective using male pronouns as well as the use of biblical scripture and bíblicas terminology.

Fun post today! New kit in the mail from LMNT!

Today I got 5 gift packs of the electrolyte beverage LMNT with three new flavors: chocolate chai, chocolate mint and chocolate raspberry drink mix. I have mixed their chocolate and chocolate Carmel in with my coffee along with sugar free creamer before and they always taste great! Can’t wait to try!

I took a class this past week that integrated Barbell Rehab with Dr Micheal Mash, PT, CSCS and Dr Matt Castaro, PT, CSCS.

This class blended strength training concepts with pain science concepts that PT can deal with.

I love this kind of blend as the reason people come to see us as PT’s is to return to what they love but so much of the time, we are limited by insurance or the fear or lack of knowledge of progressing patients back to strength training.

My next goal is to get my CSCS and go deeper on the rehab to performance aspect of physical therapy!

What are you reading? The Joy of Connections by the late Dr Ruth Westheimer. In this she breaks down combatting loneliness with having connections and relationships with 1) ourselves, 2) our family, 3) our friends and lovers, 4) our community, and 5) our technology. She depicts each category as if it were a food menu and that we should have a greater connection with ourselves first, the family, friends,lovers and community with a small connection with technology.

Why this book? As much as we focus on physical fitness, mental health, sleep hygiene it is also very important to prioritize our emotional health. Loneliness can be a painful feeling and having connections with people who respect, honor, love, support you without judgement can go a long way.

She provides some insight into what we can do to help us help ourselves fill our emotional cup and which can combat the feelings of loneliness.

I am working on this myself by learning to be more vulnerable, open minded, embracing of not only myself but those around me!

This is a short easy read. Enjoy!

“What are you reading”: Mindset by Carol Dweck, PhD. This book discusses two mindsets: The fixed mindset and the growth mindset. She discusses them from the point of view of parenting, coaching, relationships and in business. How we perform can be born of a belief system of whether our skills and abilities are simply natural and can’t be developed or are something we can develop.

As I reflect on my life I saw myself always limited in subjects such as maths and sciences because I was not good at them, I never will be but had the knack and deuce to work on my athletic abilities.

When I grew up a little and applied athletic skills and practices to the world of academics, and began to apply a growth mindset, outcomes changed, I began to enjoy school more and my success took on new levels!

If one is trying to improve in any area of life, please read this book!
